PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN

FROM MUNICIPAL WASTE

WATER USING SOLAR ENERGY
INTRODUCTION
It is well known that the main source for the
production of electricity is fossil fuels.
But it is becoming extinct day by day and hence
hydrogen is found to be suitable source.
Hydrogen on burning releases energy and easily
generates electricity through fuel cells.

Comparision of ordinary water and
waste water.
 Rate of formation of Hydrogen is found to be
higher in the case of waste water than ordinary
water.
EXPERIMENT
 Scientist are looking electrolysis of water as an
alternative.
 Large amount of electricity is required for
electrolysis and it can be supplied by inexhaustible
energy sources like solar, wind and geothermal
energy.
OBSERVATIONS AND RESULTS

 Formation of Hydrogen from electrolysis of

municipal waste water have been studied for
various process variables such as effect of
applied voltage, effect of electrode separation,
size of electrode.

 It has been observed that rate of formation of

Hydrogen is higher in case of larger cross
section area.
CONCLUSION

 The process of Hydrogen production from waste

water can minimize the waste disposal problem and if
this process is integrated with waste treatment
process then the cost of production of Hydrogen will
be further reduced.
 Thus production of Hydrogen from solar powered
electrolysis of municipal waste water can potentially
offer a facile and eco-friendly method and process
can be brought into the reality by taking trials in pilot
scale.
