PARAGRAPH

Paragraph
Paragraph is a series of sentences all relating to
the same topic or a central idea. The
paragraph should contain only one idea.
Parts of paragraph
There are 3 parts of paragraph:
1. Introductory sentence/topic sentence
2. Supporting sentences (facts, opinion,
statistics, information, or examples related to
the topic.
3. Concluding sentence

Title Topic sentence
It is above the paragraph It is the first sentence of the
paragraph

Most words are capitalized Only the first word and proper

Topic sentence
Good topic sentence contains:
1. a subject of something being written; the topic
should not be too general or too specific.
2. Controlling idea(s)
3. Point of view
Examples:
The television is a major source of home entertainment.
Digital cameras make photography easy and fun.

Supporting Sentences
The supporting sentences should be more
specific and develop the ideas expressed in
the topic sentence.
Ways to develop the paragraph:
Presenting statistics, facts, opinions, examples,
research report, personal experience,
Concluding Sentence
Concluding sentence is the last paragraph whose
function is to signal the end of the paragraph.
The concluding sentence should be related to
the topic sentence.
Concluding sentence can be a restatement of
the topic sentence, summary of the
supporting sentences, suggestion, prediction
or final comment of the topic.
