Current Electricity

SYED M. MUSTUFAIN
Learning Objectives- Upon completion
of this lesson students will ..
understand the relationships among current, voltage
and resistance.

understand the concept, statement and formula of

Ohms Law.

determine voltage, current and resistance in DC

circuits using Ohms law.
CURRENT
Current refers to the
quantity/volume of electrical flow.
Measured in Amps (A)
VOLTAGE (V)
It is the push or pressure behind
current flow through a circuit, and
is measured in (V) volts.
RESISTANCE
Resistance to the flow of the current.
Measured in Ohms
OHMS LAW
Ohm's law states that the current through a
conductor between two points is directly
proportional to the potential difference
(voltage) across the two points, and inversely
proportional to the resistance between them.
The mathematical equation that describes this
relationship is
1. Assuming the resistance does not change:
As voltage increases, current increases.
as voltage decreases, current decreases.

2. Assuming the voltage does not change:

As resistance increases, current decreases.
As resistance decreases, current increases.

Ohm's law triangle
In circuit analysis, three equivalent expressions of Ohm's law are used
interchangeably:
How do calculate?
Battery voltage is 12V
Current is Amp ?
Resistance 2 Ohm
How to calculate?
Voltage is 12V
Current is 4 Amps
Resistance Ohms ?
A 110 volt wall outlet supplies power to a strobe light with
a resistance of 2200 ohms. How much current is flowing
through the strobe light?
A nine volt battery supplies power to a cordless curling iron
with a resistance of 18 ohms. How much current is flowing
through the curling iron?
A CD player with a resistance of 40 ohms has a current
of 0.1 amps flowing through it. Sketch the circuit
diagram and calculate how many volts supply the CD
player.

Choose your answer below

a) 1. 0.0025 volts
b) 4.0 volts
c) 10.0 volts
d) 400.0 volts
A 120-volt power source supplies a lamp with a
resistance of 192 ohms. What is the current flow of the
circuit?

What is the resistance of the circuit conductors when

the conductor voltage drop is 3 volts and the current
flowing through the conductors is 100 amperes?
