Language learning strategies

environment in ways that facilitate
learning (Oxford 1990). Language
learning strategies to promote
language acquisition.

Remember: The main purposes for making use of
learning strategies when learning a second language, in this
case English, for a particular language skill, reading
comprehension, which is the skill we are focusing on in this
course are:
To improve efficiency in reading,
To read in the way that expert readers do,
To process the text actively, to monitor their
comprehension, and to connect what they are reading to
their own knowledge and to other parts of the text.
What makes a good learner? Some authors have
summarized what are believed to be some general
characteristics of good learners. Good learners
then, seem to:

Be aware of their own positive/negative feelings about learning.

Monior and assess their own progress. Organize their time.

Take risks by experimenting with language.

Have genuine interest in learning the language.

Explore strategies to find the ones that best suit them.

Use resources available in and outside the classroom.

Discuss their learning with others.

El propsito de esta actividad es inducir como
estrategia de aprendizaje la elaboracin de un
grupo ilimitado de Tarjetas de
Vocabulario, en las cuales el
estudiante registre palabras nuevas
encontradas en las actividades de lectura.

Se pretende que el estudiante escriba una


palabra/frase/expresin por tarjeta y al dorso
su significado en espaol, su definicin o una
oracin o ilustracin que indique una idea del
significado del vocabulario. Ejemplo:
