INTRODUCTION

3
What is the post tensioning?
Post-tensioning is a form of pre-stressing.

Pre-stressing simply means that the steel is stressed(pulled or tensioned) before

the concrete has to support the service load.

Afterward , once the concrete has gained the strength but before the service load
are applied ,the cables are pulled tight ,or tensioned and anchored against the
outer edge of the concrete.

4
Why PT slab for building?
Height saving
Rapid construction
Economy
Reduce dead load
Maximum design flexibility
Minimum numbers of columns
Optimum clear span
Joint free , crack free construction
High fatigue strength
Controlled deflection
Avoid complicated reinforcing bar connection
Higher punching shear strength
Water tight
Fire resistance
Less meantime
5
PRINCIPLE OF PRE-STRESSING

Concrete in which there have been introduced internal stresses of such magnitude
and distribution that the stresses resulting from given external loading are
encountered to a desired degree.

In RC member the pre-stressed is introduced by tensioning the steel reinforcement.

1.Strengthening of flat slabs with post-tensioning using anchorages by bonding
Duarte M.V. Faria , Vlter J.G. Lcio, A. Pinho Ramos
Department of Civil Engineering, Faculdade de Cincias e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, 2829-516
Caparica, Portugal

Process:-Experimental work on the post tensioning slab using epoxy adhesive.(all

models are 2300x2300 mm2 and punching shear applied by 200x200x50 steel
plate)
Model 1 to 3 - 100 mm thick
Model 4 to 7 - 120 mm thick
Model 7 - 120 mm thick and strengthen bi-directionally.
Conclusion:-
Reduce the deflection upto 70% compare with unstrengthen slab.
Increase the load carrying capacity up to 36%.
Decrease the crack width.
By strengthening two direction, reinforcement strains reduce up to 80% 8
2.Strengthening of flat slab with post-tensioning using anchorages by bonding
Duarte M.V. Faria , Vlter J.G. Lcio, A. Pinho Ramos
Department of Civil Engineering, Faculdade de Cincias e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, 2829-516
Caparica, Portugal

Process:- Exprimenatal work on the post tensioning slab using epoxy adhesive.(all
models are 2300x2300 mm2 and punching shear applied by 200x200x50 steel
plate).

9
Conclusion:-
Increase the post punching resistance 78%.
Post punching resistance is depends upon the load path.

3.Punching of flat slabs supported on rectangular columns
J. Sagaseta a,, L. Tassinari b, M. Fernndez Ruiz c, A. Muttoni
University of Surrey, Guildford, United Kingdom b University of Applied Sciences
Western Switzerland HES-SO-HEIG-VD, Yverdon les Bains, Switzerland.

Process:-
This paper investigate the punching shear in one way and two way slab with taking
square and rectangular column section.

11
12
Shear fields and distribution of nominal shear forces along different control perimeters
Conclusion:-
Punching shear strength is depends upon the orientation of the column.

Punching shear also depends upon the geometry (shape) of the column section.

For the increasing punching shear resistance, give the column position based on
the slab bending deflection.

4.Sesmic performance of post-tensioning interior slab column connection
with and without drop panel
U. Prawatwong, C.H. Tandian, P. Warnitchai The 14th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering October 12-17,
2008, Beijing, China

Process:-Experimental work on the post tensioning interior slab coloumn

connection using bonded tendon with two model,

1. With drop panel

2. Without drop panel

Conclusion:-
The slab without drop panel is quick failed by the punching shear after the
attending 2% drift.

The slab with drop panel is quick failed by the punching shear after the attending
6% drift.

INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, NIRMA UNIVERSITY, AHMEDABAD 382 481, 09-11 DECEMBER, 2010

Process:-Cost comparison for the four types floor system.

i. PT Flat slab
ii. RCC Flat slab
iii. PT Slab with RCC beam
iv. RCC slab with RCC beam
Conclusion:-
For the economy point of view the PT flat slab is most economical among the four
floor system and RCC slab with RCC beam is costly.

6.Voided slab: Review pepar
Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Prof. H. J Joshi, Rohit Raj, Prem Prakash Mishra, Mamta Kadhane, Bharati Mohabey
3rd Intershnational Conference on Multidisciplinary Research & Practice

Discussion:-In this paper discussion about the some failure mechanism about the
void slab . Like,
i. Shear strength
ii. Bending strength
iii. Deflection
iv. Fire resistance
v. Punching shear
vi. Cost comparison
vii. Behaviour under seismic load
Conclusion :-
Shear capacity of the voided slab is 72 to 90% of the solid slab.
The bending strength is same for Bubble Deck and for a solid deck and that the
stiffness of the Bubble Deck is slightly lower.
18
Deflection

The punching shear in void slab is very less about the 91% of the solid slab.
Overall cost of the voided slab is less compare with solid slab.

19
Aim
