PRESENTATION TOPIC:

OPERATION OF GENERATOR &

POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM OF
ISLAMIC FOUNDATION PRESS
INTRODUCTION
Electricity generation is the process of generating electric
power from other sources of primary energy. The
fundamental principles of electricity generation were
discovered during the 1820s and early 1830s by the British
scientist Michael Faraday. His basic method is still used
today: electricity is generated by the movement of a loop of
wire, or disc of copper between the poles of
a magnet. For electric utilities, it is the first process in the
delivery of electricity to consumers. The other processes,
electricity transmission, distribution, and electrical power
storage and recovery using pumped-storage methods are
normally carried out by the electric power industry.
Electricity is most often generated at a power station by
electromechanical generators, primarily driven by heat
engines fueled by chemical combustion or nuclear fission but
also by other means such as the kinetic energy of flowing
water and wind.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
The particular objectives of internship were as
follows:
To apply theoretical knowledge in the practical
field.
To have a clear view of current scenario of power
production and distribution efficiently.
To observe the operation and maintenance
system.
Collecting practical Knowledge regarding power
generation and distribution.
To observe the synchronization process
practically.
To know how a large organization is managed.
METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY
Methodology describes the manner in which data is collected,
analyzed and interpreted. The data that will present in this
report would collect from primary and secondary data source.
The sources are mentioned below:

Primary Data Source:

In this report, the primary data source would be raw data
gathering from own observation. The primary data source
that will be used in this report is data obtained through
practical involvement with job responsibilities.

Secondary Data Source :

Secondary data includes reviewing articles and internet for
the completion of the organizational part. To give the report a
better look, secondary data is also collected from different
brochures, newspapers and consultation and some interview
sessions.
BASIC THEORIES
Introduction:
This chapter is a basic discussion of the power generation and distribution
system.
Basic function of electric power generation:
There are seven fundamental methods of directly transforming
other forms of energy into electrical energy:
Static electricity, from the physical separation and transport of charge
(examples: tribo electric effect and lightning)
Electrochemistry, the direct transformation of chemical energy into
electricity, as in a battery, fuel cell or nerve impulse
Nuclear transformation, the creation and acceleration of charged particles
(examples: betavoltaics or alpha particle emission)
MAIN COMPONENTS OF A GENERATOR
The main components of an electric generator can be broadly
classified as follows (refer to illustration above):

Fig.: Main components of generator

(1) Engine, (2) Alternator, (3) Fuel System, (4) Voltage Regulator, (5)
Cooling and Exhaust Systems, (6) Lubrication System, (7) Battery
Charger, (8) Control Panel, (9) Main Assembly / Frame
GAS GENERATOR
Gas generator is a generator where natural gas is
used to produce kinetic energy and this energy is
converted into electrical energy. As Bangladesh has a
large amount of reserved gas naturally it is preferable
to use gas generator for producing electric power. Gas
generator has two parts one is gas engine another one
is alternator.
DIESEL GENERATOR
A diesel generator is the combination of a diesel
engine with an electric generator (often an alternator)
to generate electrical energy. This is a specific case
of engine-generator. A diesel compression-ignition
engine often is designed to run on fuel oil, but some
types are adapted for other liquid fuels or natural
gas.
DISTRIBUTION OF POWER OF ISLAMIC
FOUNDATION PRESS
In the factory two generator produce maximum amount of
energy but the authority takes REB power for their
management. So that, their distribution system becomes
complex. Here maximum load has two line, one from
generator and another one is from REB. The supply of
power is controlled by change over. There are different
types of load in the factory. Large machines are provided
by three phase four wire line.
The entire factory has two type of electrical power. One is
electrical power from generator another one is REB
electricity from indoor substation. One important thing is
that the generator power and the REB power are
separated from each other. They are not in the same line.
Both power have different bus bars.

FINDINGS OF THE STUDY
A generator should be run with minimum 35% load of its
total output otherwise it may shut down automatically.
A generator should not be run with more than 90% load of its
total output because it may shut down automatically for
frequent overload.
After synchronization the bus bar need a want of power to
take from newly added generator otherwise it will absorb
power instead of giving power.
Main generator works in fixed mode and auxiliary generator
runs in high speed mode.
Generators output power is changed with the change of load
added with bus bar.
When load increased generator takes more fuel, if fuel is not
sufficient then it will automatically shut down.
RECOMMENDATIONS

Islamic Foundation Press should hire more theoretical and

practical experienced electrical design engineer if the company
desired to increase its production.
Working environment should be more modern and ecological for
technicians.
Every division should be provided more training facilities for
maintenance purpose.
The PFI plant should be recovered soon.
For some mechanical problem gas generator cannot give its full
power, is should be recovered soon.
CONCLUSION
This internship was very successful to me. I have gained new
knowledge, skills and met so many new people. I got insight into
professional practice. Demand of practical work experience has no
other alternative in todays job market. Internship is a great
opportunity to achieve this experience. The internship was also good
to find out what my strengths and weaknesses are. This helped me to
define what skills and knowledge I have to improve in the coming
time. I feel very proud to be an intern of Islamic Foundation Press is
really helpful those who actually want to learn. It is a great chance
to gather knowledge of corporate world before entering the job field. I
think that, the practical experience that I gathered in Islamic
Foundation Press will help me in my professional life
