We understand
• well……..
Technology is a tool that should be
used to improve learning and
productivity, broaden access to
knowledge and help Teachers,
Parents and Students maximize the
opportunities for learners to achieve
their goals.
As a matter of fact:

• In the education arena, we have only

begun to harness the power of
technology.
• Technology is an effective tool for an
image-based generation.
• Professional development is essential
to the success of an instructional
technology implementation.
Our Priority
• Be a SMART Teacher
– Not a Hard Working Teacher. The Teacher has
to be:
Socially Networked

Must have Blogs

Must possess a website

Must have published documents

Must possess GOOGLE Links

INNOVATION IN LEARNING:

• Bloom's Taxonomy is a taxonomy of activities

and behaviours that exemplify Higher Order
Thinking Skills (HOTS) and Lower Order
Thinking Skills (LOTS).
• It allows to rank and structure different
classroom activities and plan the learning
process.

10
• In the 2001, Lorin Anderson revised Bloom's
original work to Bloom's Revised Taxonomy
…. As …….

Before you can understand a concept or fact you

must remember it,
• To apply a concept you must understand it first,
• To evaluate a process you must have analysed it.

11
12
The ICT FRAMEWORK today
…………..
• No longer MS OFFICE
• No longer PROGRAMMING SKILLS
• No longer only Sending & Receiving Mails
and SURFING the net.
Use of New Technology
Approach
• Today’s world is full of
technology.

• For education, chalk, talk and

board is not enough for the
teaching system.

• Today’s Educator must use

technology to make the
teaching/ learning process
easy, interesting,
collaborative, innovative and
result oriented.
Our scope must be
to…..
Build Technology into Lesson Planning
Have Digital Footsteps in the Classrooms for excellence in
education
Also to Provide a Real-time Support
Share Successes and have Teachers Present Them
• Break I : 11.30 – 11.45 (TEA)

“Effective communication is conversely related to the

available technology.”
Robert Cailliau, CERN 18
Session II: 11.45 to 1.15 p.m.
(FORMATION OF GROUPS/ CONCEPT
IDENTIFICATION)

• INSTRUCTIONS:
– Form a group of
Five or Six
Members Each.
– Give a name to the
group.
– Share freedom/
interface and IT
knowledge.

Make Training Relevant
Keep Learning
Keep Exploring
Vocabulary of 21st Century Learning

• Upgrade your English vocabulary with the IT

words and their application. Use them in your
day to day life.

DIGITAL
NATIVE
• Schools and Colleges have an
extra responsibility today to
conduct the novel
phenomenon for developing
the pace of learning today
with inception of Information
Technology as the means of
Education as the best and the
ultimate substitute.
Explore through collaboration.......
•To understand how new
technologies enhance
learning and why use
them

•To be aware of On-line

collaborative tools to
promote teaching &
learning

•To learn a new

technology or tool and

Anytime,
anywhere
working
for example, may
be accessed 24
hours a day, 7
days a week.
- Through the Internet
a wealth of learning
materials can now be
accessed from
anywhere at anytime
of the day and by
unlimited number of
people.
Technological literacy, or
the ability to use ICT
effectively and
efficiently, is thus seen as
representing a
competitive edge in an
increasingly globalizing
job market.
ICT usage & implementation helps in
several ways:
* by increasing learner motivation and
engagement,
* by facilitating the acquisition of
basic skills, and
* by enhancing teacher training.
ICTs such as videos, television
and multimedia computer
software that combine text,
sound, and colorful, moving
images can be used to provide
challenging and authentic
content that will engage the
student in the learning process.
ICTs have also been used to improve
access to and the quality of teacher
training.

LAPTOPS
IN CLAS
SROOMS
Research has shown that
the appropriate use of
ICTs can catalyze the
paradigmatic shift in both
content and pedagogy
that is at the heart of
education reform in the
21st century.
– Break II: 1.15 to 1.45 p.m. (LUNCH)

"Who
dares to
teach must
never
cease to
learn."
-- John

• Session III: 1.45 to 3.00 p.m.
(PRESENTATION SESSION/ CASE STUDY
FORMATION)

39
• INSTRUCTIONS:
– Share the BRAINSTORMED Issues on a chart paper.
– Make a Group Analysis.
– Make a Cause and Effect Diagram (ISHIKAWA
DIAGRAM) to showcase the Improvement Plan by
depicting the causes to the problem/ ICT
Implementation.
– Develop Course of Action
– Share the Presentation with the Facilitator/ or the
audience.

40
A PROPOSED CASE STUDY BY
THE GROUPS:
• Imagine a school with no Internet Access and
a mental block to roll out ICT Implementation.
What strategies would you adopt to motivate
the promoter of the school to provide the
requisite infrastructure?
How would you convince the Management of
the school to take it seriously and execute it
appropriately?

41
• A Sample Fish Bone Diagram:
– Major causes for any concern may include MAN,
MACHINE, METHOD and ENVIRONMENT.

42
Innovation Plan: PDCA & DMAIC
Approaches

43
Analysis/
Outcome:
1) Learning about computers and the
Internet, in which technological
literacy is the end goal;
2) Learning with computers and the
Internet, in which the technology
facilitates learning across the
curriculum; and
3) Learning through computers and
the Internet, integrating
THE MYTHS:
Losing Control of Learning –

The effective Teachers’ top

priority is to maintain order in
the classroom and to have a
controlled learning environment.
• Any suggestion of adopting an
innovative teaching technique
such as using ICT is therefore
seen as threatening this orderly
pattern and so not easily
acceptable – hence the challenge !

46
• There is a genuine fear
amongst many teachers
about ICT and
scepticism of its value to
their pupils.
47
New Required Preface of
Learning
• To understand the potential of web 2.0
technologies inside and outside of the
classroom
• To identify how web 2.0 technologies
support the pedagogy that we use to raise
student attainment

48
The new preface of ICT Learning
via Web 2.0 – a definition
“Web 2.0 generally refers to a second
generation of services available on the
World Wide Web that lets people
collaborate and share information online.
In contrast to the first generation, Web 2.0
gives users an experience closer to desktop
applications than the traditional static
Web pages.”
(Wikipedia)

49
50
A point to Ponder
…….
• No wonder, a non IT Professional is
branded as completely illiterate ! ! !
– The debate is on to bounce this imperative IT
Mantra to adults and to Senior Retired lot who
take it as a moral substitute to their livelihood.
• In the next 5 years things are going to
change more than what they have changed
in the last 50 years.
• After 2 years, you shall find this system
prevalent in every school- then why not BE
THE FIRST.
Moreover, this shall make things
easier and faster for us. A
computer, of course, cannot
replace a human brain; but can be
a very powerful instrument in the
hands of educators and leaders to
provide a new dimension to the
Education Scenario.
Let us explore to have our HEAD
TOP upgraded with the latest
processing tools (Web 2.0)
 The illiterate of the 21st
century will not be those who
cannot read and write, but
those who cannot learn,
unlearn, and relearn.
Alvin Toffler

54
Why invest time in Emerging
Technologies?

• Contributes to the current agendas of

– Assessment for learning
– Independent learning
– Higher level thinking skills

• Bringing learning to the disenfranchised

(Those who have not been served by traditional
classroom settings)

55
Why invest time in Emerging
Technologies?

• Functionality of blogs allows a two way dialogue to

happen between the writer and reader
• Comments, questions and feedback allow work and ideas
to be developed over time
• The additional functionality of RSS allows you to see when
sites from all over the internet have added new content as
soon as it is published, without having to visit each site
every day

RSS (most commonly expanded as "Really Simple

Syndication") is a family of web feed formats used to
publish frequently updated works—such as blog
56
Why invest time in Emerging
Technologies?
• “Social software” allows physical distance to be
overcome
• Collaboration with schools working on similar
projects
• Access to experts who can be encouraged to
contribute to blogs
• Taking knowledge, digesting it and reflecting on it
in a contribution to a blog encourages a higher
level of thinking

57
New Context for Learning
• The opportunities for educators are far different
than just a decade ago. The use of ICT enables us to
collaborate and access knowledge and expertise
unthinkable in the recent past

• Educational practice is often NOT different than a

decade ago

• Rise of the “Digital Divide” between Digital Natives

and Digital Immigrants (Mark Prensky)

58
Bridging the Divide

Don't limit a
child to your
own learning,
for he was born
in another time.

Rabbinical Saying

59
Bridging the Divide- The
Truth that prevails.
“Our Digital Immigrant instructors, who speak an
outdated language (that of the pre-digital age),
are struggling to teach a population that speaks
an entirely new language.”

Natives “are used to the instantaneity of

hypertext, downloaded music, phones in their
pockets, a library on their laptops, beamed
conversations and instant messaging. They’ve
been networked most or all of their lives.”

60
Preparing for the 21st century
learner !
So if Digital Immigrant educators really want
to reach Digital Natives – e.g. all their students
– they will have to change. It’s high time for
them to stop their grousing, and as the Nike
motto of the Digital Native generation says,
“Just do it!” They will succeed in the long run
– and their successes will come that much
sooner if their administrators support them.
