Objectives

to familiarize students with higher education in English-

speaking countries and to build up campus vocabulary
to make students aware of different
discourses/registers within language: general English vs.
academic English, formal vs. informal registers
to discuss relevant linguistic, historical and philosophical
topics
to consolidate and broaden students' knowledge of
certain structures of language with particular emphasis
on grammatical points covered in previous courses
Expected Results
At the end of the semester, a student should be able

to describe higher education in an English-speaking country

to explain basic differences between general and academic
English and to recognize them in the text
to describe the chosen field of study and its structure with
respect to core/elective courses, credits
to provide basic information about the courses within the
chosen field of study
to provide information about the topics covered in the
course
