ADA (1990)
Civil rights law that protects Americans with disabilities
from discrimination in all places that are open to the general
public
ADA Title II
Prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities by
public entities

Public entities include any state or local government


departments, agencies, or other instrumentalities. All
activities, services, and programs of public entities, such
as town meetings and employment.

No reasonable modifications to rules, policies, or practices

Assistive Technology Devices
Any piece of equipment that is used to maintain, increase, or
improve the functional capabilities of children with
disabilities

Does not include surgically implanted devices

Very broad definition in order to give IEP flexibility needed


to make a decision about appropriate assistive technology
devices for individual students

Directly assists a child with a disability in the selection,
acquisition, and use of an assistive technology device

Evaluation of needs for a child

Purchasing and providing for the acquisition of devices

Selecting, designing, customizing, adapting, repairing or


replacing devices

Coordination and other therapies with devices


Captioning
Provides an illustration with title or explanation

Adds accessibility to videos by allowing for hearing


impaired people to watch the video and understand visually
ALT Tag
Includes text with an image

Provides a clear text alternative of the image for screen


reader users
Avoid Blinking or Flashing
Can cause seizures

Might not know if your audience has epilepsy or other


disabilities that this could cause a problem for them

air pressure

Primarily used by people who do not have the use of their


hands
