Congratulations on taking the first steps on your search for volunteer opportunities and / or

employment. Please know that job postings are updated quarter 3 & 4 for your

convenience, but should not be considered as an endorsement of the companies or

positions represented here within.

These postings can also be found in the Guidance Office or the Career Center. Please keep

in mind that many employers will have minimum age and work experience requirements,

among other criteria.

So, you completed the application process and turned in
the application to the potential employer or volunteer
organization, now what?

Both jobs and volunteering are a chance for you to gain


experience. It is your responsibility to follow up afterwards.
Give the employer some time to look at your application
and within the next week call or stop in to check the status
of your application. Tell them you are just checking to see
if they have had a chance to look at your application and if
they will be hiring or taking volunteers any time soon.

Be sure to leave your name so the potential employer


knows that you are serious about getting a job. BE
POLITE! This is your first impression!

Lorraines Soup Kitchen,
Chicopee

Program Volunteers Needed- Age 12 -15 accompanied by


parent/guardian

Food Pantry, sorting and stocking shelves, repacking foods. Approximate hours 9am-2pm

Housekeeping: sweeping/mopping floors, dining room setup and clean bathrooms. Approximate
hours: 9am 2pm

Soup Kitchen: Dinner Service, serving meals, washing dishes, dining room and kitchen clean up.
Approximate hours: 4pm 6:45pm

Soup Kitchen Reinforcements: on-call when soup kitchen is notified that a regularly scheduled team
is short handed. Attempt will be made to give at least a 24 hour notice.

Cooking and food preparation. Approximate hours: 2pm 4pm

*** We are currently asking volunteers to commit to a minimum of 30 hours. This typically is 10, three
hour shifts over several weeks or months.***

annual participation fee of $15.00 for Girl Scouts and $24 for
Boy Scouts.

Things To Do On Your Own
w/a Trusted Adult
Help clean up your neighborhood by removing trash from
the street or keeping storm drains clear of leaves.

Take initiative! Offer to help out more around the


house or in the yard raking leaves!

Help others by offering your time in your neighborhood.


Bring a trusted friend or family member to help!

Offer to help walk neighbors dog, make sure the animal


knows you or is known to have a good temperament. Bring a
trusted adult along for the walk!

Take the time to thank the people in your life who have
helped you and make a difference. We often forget how
important it really is!

Watch the Wild!
Do you like nature and care about the environment? Why not put
the two together?
With Watch the Wild, you observe nature and make note of
changes you see. With permission from your parents or guardians,
go online and report your observations!
Requirements:
Internet access / permission. Observed location must be in the
Springfield area. Ex. Family member or friends backyard. Forest
Park or other parks.

Make Toys For Animal Shelters!
Do you like arts and crafts? Do you love animals?
There are thousands of animals that need love and attention in shelters
across America. You can help by making No Sew dog and cat toys to help
the animals have fun and feel happier in their current situation. The Thomas
J. OConnor Animal Center needs toys for their animals!
Requirements: A passion for crafts, internet access/ permission (for toy ideas
/ material lists/ how to tutorials). Parent guidance when using sharp objects
for cutting.
Example: Put an empty, thin, plastic water bottle with no cap inside a CLEAN
old sock. Tie the loose end up tight and youre done!
