Low flow of river water during

summer

Dams are built at the upstream of international rivers to

restrict water flow

International laws for water distribution are not honoured

International laws for water distribution are not followed

Farakka Dissertations, fall of underground water, A counter dam could be built at the downstream
loss of permeability of soil, deteriorating of of Farakka which may-
recharging capacity of crust. a.Helps to store water for use in winter;
b.In rainy season we can shut the counter dam
which has deterrence impact that can help in the
time of bilateral negotiation.

Water clogging Traffic congestion, damage of road and The proper dredging of the rivers encircled the big
construction, disruption of sewerage line. cities like Dhaka and Chittagong.
To protect the marshy lands and water bodies
around the big cities
It is required to take the marshy land and water
body under profitable project to retain it.
Arsenic contamination Health hazard, adverse impact on Proper recharging of underground water
environment. Reduce the litter which damage the soil structure
and hence its permeability.
Poor river administration Uncontrolled erosion, divert the course of There should be a master plan for river
river, flood. administration so that the high current and big
rivers van not alter the course
We should be alert lest the embankments and
dam would create permanent water clogging like
Vobadhaha Bill of Jessore.
Solution/Recommendations
1. Modern water management technology near critical areas like : Farakka barrage,
Tista Barrage (Water tank which will hold the excessive water and distribute as per
requirement
2. Connect Dhaka city to Balu river
3. Promotional activities to raise awareness (Similar to Modis campaign)
4. Deal/lobbying with India
5. Cleaning up lakes, canals, rivers etc.
