What is Global Education?
The heart of global education is enabling young people to
participate in shaping a better, shared future for the world. Global
education is a creative approach of bringing about change in our
society.

Primary and Secondary Schooling
American Australian

American Education
Schooling in America is similar throughout the country with slight
differences between states and territories. Education is required
between the ages of six and sixteen (year 1 to year 9 or 10). It is
12 years and divided into:
Primary school(aka Elementary School): 5-6 years, Kindergarten
through to year 6 or 7.
Secondary school: 3-4 years, years 7 to 10 or 8 to 10.
Middle school (aka Junior High School)
High School

Australian Education
Schooling in Australia is similar throughout the country with
slight differences between states and territories. Education is
required between the ages of six and sixteen (year 1 to year
9 or 10). It is 13 years and divided into:
Primary school: 7-8 years, Kindergarten through to year 6
or 7
Secondary school: 3-4 years, years 7 to 10 or 8 to 10
Senior secondary school: 2 years, years 11 and 12

universities) and vocational education and training (VET)
Licensing & Certification
Requirements
Before you can teach, youll need to meet some certification and licensing
requirements
Obtain a bachelors degree
Complete a teacher preparation program, includes either an
undergraduate, masters, or alternative program
Get state or national certification to teach by completing all
requirements
Eligibility Requirements for Teachers
To teach in a public school or relief teaching you have to meet
the Department of Education's requirements
Posses a teaching qualification from an accredited program or
one that is recognized by the board
Must be registered with the teacher registration board
Meet the departments probity checks
In Australia, be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, have
permanent residency in Australia, or visa from department of
immigration and citizenship

National police history check
Working with children check: a criminal check for those people
who work with children under the age of 18, ensures that no
one with a criminal record is hired for the childrens safety

Generated by the screening database once the national police check has been
cleared.
Applicant will receive a letter of clearance which includes SCN and date of
clearance.

Teaching in Indiana
To become a teacher you must first:
Obtain a Bachelors Degree
Complete an approved teacher preparation program
Pass state-required tests
CPR/AED/Heimlich certification and suicide classes
State and federal background check
Fingerprint background check
Two levels of licensure
Initial Practitioner
Proficient Practitioner

Initial Practitioner: renewable, two year license for first time


teachers
Must complete Indiana Monitoring Assessment program which is a two year
mentored internship
Proficient Practitioner: renewable, five year license to working
teachers who have passed the IMAP
Testing Requirements
Pearson ES Developmental/Pedagogy exam
-basic skills test
