through faith

17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you,
a wild olive shoot, were grafted in their place to share
the richness of the olive tree, 18 do not boast over the
branches. If you do boast, remember it is not you that
support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 You
will say, Branches were broken off so that I might be
grafted in. 20 That is true. They were broken off because
of their unbelief, but you stand fast only through faith.
So do not become proud, but stand in awe. 21 For if God
did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare
you Romans 11:17-21

life was the light of all
mankind.

with the truth
(vv.4-5)
4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No
branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain
in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless
you remain in me. 5 I am the vine; you are
the branches. If you remain in me and I in
you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me
you can do nothing.
O God, You are my God; Early will I

flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land; Where
there is no water.

6 Then he told this parable: A man had a fig tree growing
in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did
not find any. 7 So he said to the man who took care of the
vineyard, For three years now Ive been coming to look for
fruit on this fig tree and havent found any. Cut it down!
Why should it use up the soil?
8 Sir, the man replied, leave it alone for one more year,
and Ill dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next
year, fine! If not, then cut it down.
Luke 13:6-9

the Lord, so walk in him,7 rooted
and built up in him and established in
the faith, just as you were taught,
abounding in thanksgiving.
Col. 2:6-7 ESV
I am the vine; you are the branches.
If you remain in me and I in you, you
will bear much fruit; apart from me
you can do nothing.
John 15:5
2. Apparent activity of
our faith
(vv.7-8)
7Ifyou remain in me and my words
remain in you, ask whatever you
wish, and it will be done for you.

bear much fruit, showing yourselves

to be my disciples.

the paw of the lion and the paw
of the bear will rescue me from
the hand of this Philistine.
