P-wave & S-wave Velocities

1 P-wave velocity decreases with overpressure.

S-wave velocity also decreases with overpressure, but

to a different degree.

2 Poisson's Ratio
The Poissons ratio decreases with increasing
pore pressure

At HIGH pore-pressure the Poissons ratio

increases again.

3 Reflection Coefficients : P-P reflected phases

The amplitudes or reflection coefficients of PP
reflected phases are high and increase with
overpressure at 90 degrees angle of incidence

The AVO response at high overpressure shows

negative trends.
Reflection Coefficients: P-S reflected phases
4 Steadily increase with angles
Followed by negative anomalies at higher angles
Trends stronger at high overpressure
Values relatively high to P-P reflected phases at
high overpressure
Reflection Coefficients: P-P reflection coefficients

5 P-P reflection amplitude is high for high

concentrations of gas-hydrate causing
cementation
Shows highly negative anomaly at high
overpressure
Reflection Coefficients: P-S reflection coefficients

6 P-S amplitude is high for high conc. of hydrates

even at normal hydrostatic pressured
Therefore analysis to differentiate high pore
pressure + amplitudes of P-P reflected phases
should be conducted
