Introduction
Liquefied natural gas, or LNG, is a natural gas in liquid form.
When natural gas is cooled to minus 259 degrees Fahrenheit (-
161 degrees Celsius), natural gas becomes a clean, colorless,
odorless liquid.
Large amounts of natural gas reserves are often found in
remote locations far from user / consumer locations. If
economically feasible and feasible, natural gas can be
transported through pipes
Currently LNG produced in Indonesia has not been much
enjoyed by the people and industries in Indonesia.
Diesel engines can also be called diesel fuel motors
(compression-ignition engines) are internal combustion
engines that use compressed heat to create ignition and burn
fuel that has been injected into the combustion chamber. Diesel
engines do not use spark plugs such as gasoline engines.
Problems
Why is LNG selected as an alternative base material on a
ship?
What technology can be used on the fuel?
How to modify engine and fuel system?
What is LNG
LNG is produced from natural gas in the liquefacation
process. Liquefacation or condensation is a phenomenon
that changes the aggregate state, when a substance passes
from the gas phase into the liquid phase.
This can take place under certain pressures and at a
temperature below the critical temperature of the
surroundings.
Use of LNG as Fuel on Ships
In order to utilize LNG for domestic market it is
necessary to build loading / unloading facility

Dredging International (DEME), a Belgian offshore
carrier shipbuilder is building an offshore support vessel
at China's Cosco shipyard, which will use Liquefied
Natural Gas (LNG) or Dual-Fuel (DF) as its fuel. It is
Orion, the first LNG or Dual-Fuel (DF) offshore engine
with a 210 meter length is expected to be completed and
delivered to its owners by 2018.
Isla Bella Ships
Owned by TOTE, in partnership with General Dynamics
NASSCO, Isla Bella is proud to announce its status as the
world's first LNG gas container ship. The vessel is also
one of two Marlin class container ships and the largest
LNG gas-fueled dry cargo vessel today.
ConRo ship
The construction of the world's first LNG gas-fueled
ConRo ship began in October 2014. The design of the
ship was designed by Wartsila Ship Design in
collaboration with Crowley's subsidiary, Jensen maritime.
LNG machine
Most of the current BBG Vehicles are gasoline-fueled
vehicles that at the time of removal from the factory are
converted by a private company so that they can use gas
fuel or gasoline.
A new development in dual system fuel is a controlled
computer, called a direct injection system.
Vehicles running more than about 160-175 km per day
may require additional fuel tanks to increase vehicle
coverage.
In the absence of a complete filling infrastructure, the
conversion of a fleet of vehicles back to one ton per
night seems to be a more economical approach.
LNG Fuel
Natural gas melted at cryogenic or extreme cold
temperatures (-160oC) is then loaded into cryogenic tubes
/ tanks present in this vehicle referred to as liquefied
natural gas (LNG). LNG is produced at the LNG plant
(LNG plant).
CNG is manufactured at the CNG plant. The pipe gas is
applied to the compressor to be pressed until it reaches a
certain pressure and then the gas is stored in a high
pressure tube.

LNG Characteristics:
Volumes are 600 times smaller than natural gas to
facilitate transportation because LNG requires less
volume than when gas
LNG consists mostly of methane, contains no sulfur
and other follow-up materials so it is clean,
environmentally friendly (low emission) fuel and does
not cause crust in the combustion chamber
The LNG gas type is lower than air so that in case of
leakage, LNG gas will rise into the air
Non-toxic and not storing CNG. In vehicles using LNG
will use cryogenic tanks to store LNG that has extreme
cold temperatures.
Conclusion
Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel. Natural gas
produces less emissions and pollutants than coal or oil
LNG is an energy-price competitive source that can help
meet future economic needs. Tips on converting LNG to fuel
that is better to convert newer vehicles compared to older
vehicles, convert for vehicles designed to travel further, and
consider how to use the vehicle before converting.
LNG price is cheaper than diesel / diesel oil price, so it will
reduce energy cost for society and industry players and reduce
the import of diesel oil / diesel so it can save foreign exchange.
With the above mentioned characters LNG deserve even be
enjoyed by our nation.
