PROGRESSIVISM
I scored the highest in the progressivism portion and I highly agree
with what it stands for. I believe that children should always be
the number one priority. Progressivism believes that what the
child is thinking, feeling and doing is important. The society is
always changing and so should the atmosphere that children
learn in. John Dewey strongly believed that students must be
invested in what they are learning. It is important to make new
ideas as important as past beliefs. Dewey argued that curriculum
should be relevant to childrens lives.
SUMMARY
By doing this small survey I learned a lot about how I view education and
teaching. I agree that progressivism is my strongest philosophy. I
believe that children should be the top priority and school should
have curriculum that intrigues the child so they can learn more
efficiently. My weakest philosophy was behaviorism which I was
shocked by. I typically have always responded well to this philosophy
and always thought about using it in my classroom. I believe that
teachers are there to guide children to make better behavior choices.
Even though this is my weakest philosophy I still believe that I will use
behavior reinforcements so that children can stay focused in the
classroom.
SUMMARY
I feel that my personal experience in school has shaped the way I
view education. I believe that children should not be restricted in
how they want to learn but I feel that children should also have
guidelines. Children can express themselves freely but also need
to be aware of what is expected of them in and outside of the
classroom.
I believe that my personal philosophy aligns with how Clark County
Schools take toward instruction. I personally believe that Clark
County is interested in what the children will benefit the most
from.
