Transformational Leadership
I believe that a successful football program is based on commitment to
organization, preparation, teaching, leading and winning. Good planning of a
football program requires administrators, teachers, coaches and student athletes
to work together zealously, comfortably, cooperatively and effectively. A football
program should have a structured plan in developing each individual. This plan
should prepare the individual for his life as much as possible. The plan should
help an individual academically, athletically and mentally.

As head coach of a program, I feel that the plan can be met by leading with self-
discipline, responsibility and teamwork. Also, the program will allow leaders to
come forward and showcase their abilities which will undoubtedly help them in
the future long after high school.

Finally, being a great head coach requires one to be a great teacher and
motivator. Coaching is nothing more than teaching. They are synonymous. In
teaching there are objectives, strategies, skills and evaluation. It is the same for
coaching. The ingredient that separates excellent teachers and coaches from the
average is motivation combined with enthusiasm. Those are intangibles that not
all are blessed with. I feel that I have infinite energy for both.

Falcon Pride and Respect

Our pride comes from doing hard work and taking care of the little things.
Our respect comes from our success and continued success.

Is Your Will Going To Match Your Skill?

Football is a simple game. It is essentially three parts: 1. Know your assignment. 2. Block the best you can all
the time. 3. Be the best tackler at your defensive position.
Everything else will fall into place.

Destiny is not a matter of chance…

It’s a matter of choice!

Assistant Coach Guidelines
The following are guidelines that are expected from assistant coaches at Briar Woods.
• Be loyal to the program. This includes the head coach and the other assistants. Look out for each other. Lets talk as a staff to solve
any program conflicts. It is expected of you to make my job easier not more difficult.

• In order to have respect you need to have respectability first. That comes from being dependable and true to your word. It comes
from being fair. Be positive as much as possible. When being critical, critique the football action, not the person. Keep player
comments about a player to that individual or coach only and not to other players. Always seek out that player you were critical of
and settle issues before leaving field.

• Be a leader, not their buddy. It is ok to motivate and be enthusiastic on their level but make sure they know where the line of coach
and player.

• Have class. It starts with your actions. They speak louder than your words. Be a good communicator.

• Be aware of confiding in parents about program and personnel issues. This includes and up to social networking.

• Keep the head coach apprised of what is going on with your position players throughout the season. If needed, keep records of any
progress, problems, attendance, and any parent conferences. Any final decisions on personnel such as dismissals and cuts are through
the head coach and athletic director.

• Be fundamentally sound. Know your material (fundamentals), be organized, teach in a sequence, be through, and work on your most
important fundamentals everyday (1st things first).

• We will use a two back offense either under center or gun. We will use motions to gain advantages in the rush and the pass. We will
utilize TEs in both run and pass. We will also use the unbalanced line and single wing concepts in short yardage, goal line, and as a
changeup.
• We will use an attacking 3-4 defense that will employ pressures and blitzes. We will keep the opponents offense off balance with
weekly adjustments.
• Special Teams will be an integral part of our team and will be practiced daily,
• Assist the head coach in administrative duties such as scouting, inventory, supervision, fundraisers.
• The objective of the freshmen and junior varsity is to be prepared for varsity.

Lets have fun and continue to enjoy our time together.

Falcon Football Rules
In order to maintain a positive learning environment and remain competitive it is imperative that each
and every member of the football program follows these rules:

• The coaching staff will determine playing time and starters.

• Detention Hall and/or Suspension Policy:
On days you are suspended, you cannot report to practice or play in any game. You are not allowed to ride the bus to any
away games on days you are suspended.
• No missed practices unless you have a legitimate reason and the coaching staff have been notified prior to practice. If you
have an absence the day before a game then playing time could be affected. Every effort should be made not to have doctor
visits during practice hours. An unexcused absence is defined as missing a practice without prior knowledge of the coaching
staff for any reason except the following: I) Death in the family, II) Injuries receiving medical care, III) Non-rescheduled dental
appointment, IV) Sickness resulting in missed school day(s), V) An official religious observance.
• All players are expected to ride the bus home after games.
• Player Conduct: You represent your family, your teammates, the football program, Briar Woods High, and the Briar
Woods’ community. Don’t do anything that would embarrass any of the above.
• You are expected to fulfill all classroom responsibilities on time. Progress reports will be signed by your teachers and turn
in to the head coach. I will receive all players’ report cards and I will go over each one. I will get you help to raise any
grades but it is up to the player to follow through. Being disrespectful and not doing class work/ homework is
unacceptable.
• Be on time to practice, school, and class. If you are not going to be on time then be early.
• All eyes and attention is focused on the coach when he is speaking.
• No sitting on rear end or helmet. Stand or kneel when not physically engaged.
• Football is an emotional sport and sometimes profanity occurs. This is not an acceptable way to respond. Refrain from using
profanity as much as possible. Abusers will have discipline applied to them.
• Leave the practice field a better player. Get better at something each and every day.
• On game day we will wear our game jerseys. You are showcasing you and the program. Be proud to wear your jersey. Be
proud to be a Briar Woods’ Football Player. Look clean!
• Have Fun!!

I have read and understand the rules and regulations of the Briar Woods Football Program.

pre-game snack/meals on both JV and Varsity
level.
3. Coordinate any parent activities that would

Falcon Football Parent Roles
• Be supportive to your son and the program.
• Be a fan of everyone on the team.
• Respect the decisions of the coaches and referees.
• Talk to your son if you have any questions and if you have questions, contact the
head coach of each team first. The progression that follows next is: I) Head Coach
of Program, II) Athletic Director, III) Principal
• Don’t “poison” the water towards a coach, the program, or teammates by your
conversation.
• Don’t talk to coaches’ families about problems in the stadium during the game.
• Do not talk or coach your son during games or practices. This is distracting to
players and coaches. We, coaches, do not come to your workplace and tell your
workers what to do. This will not be tolerated.
• Do not talk to coaches on game day, before or after games, about complaints. Go
through the proper channels.
• Parents are not allowed on the practice field unless invited by the staff.
• Understand that the coaches’ responsibility is to make certain that your son is
safe, become a better athlete, and even a better person.
• Have Fun!!

Thanks for your understanding and support.
