ANGLE PAIRS

How many pairs of adjacent angles are in the figure?

What can you conclude about the pair of adjacent
angles in the figure?
How many pairs of vertical angles are formed in the
figure?
Many pair s of angle have special
relationships.
Some relationship is because of the
positions of the angles in the pair
and
some pair of angles is because of the
measurements of the angles in the pair.
ANGLE PAIRS
 Illustrate and identify the angle pairs
- adjacent, vertical, linear pair
- complementary and supplementary
angles
 Find the measures of angle in the pair
of angles
Adjacent angles
Non- Adjacent angles

Adjacent angles are two angles that have the

same vertex and a common side between them.

∠1 and ∠2 are adjacent angles

Opposite rays formed a straight angle , thus,
linear pair measure 180°
Tell whether the angles are only adjacent,
adjacent and form a linear pair or not adjacent

∠AEB and ∠BED

∠AEB and ∠BEC
∠DEC and ∠AEB
Not a vertical angle
Using the diagram, tell whether the angles are
vertical, a linear pair or neither

∠1 and ∠2
∠1 and ∠4
∠1 and ∠6
∠1 and ∠3
∠1 and ∠8
∠2 and ∠4
∠5 and ∠6
Principles of Pairs of Angles
Principle 1: If an angle of c° is cut into adjacent angles
of 1 and 2, then ∠1 + ∠2 = c° ( Angle Addition
Postulate)

Principle 2: Vertical angles are congruent

Thus if 𝑨𝑩 and 𝑪𝑫 are straight
lines, then ∠1≅∠3 and ∠2≅∠4
If ∠1 is 40°then, ∠3 is also 40° thus
∠2 𝒊𝒔 140° (note that ∠1 and ∠2
form a linear pair), thus ∠3 is 40° , if
∠2 𝒊𝒔 140° then ∠4 is 140°

To find the complement of
an angle that measures xº is
by subtracting its measure
from 90º, or ( 90 – x)º

To find the supplement of an angle that measures xº is by

subtracting its measure from 180º, or ( 180 –x)º
Find the measure of the lettered angles
The measure of its supplement is 112°
1. Find two angles such that the angles are
supplementary and the larger is twice
the smaller.
2. Find two angles such that the angles are
complementary and the larger is 20° more
than the smaller.
3. Find two angles such that the angles are
adjacent and form an angle of 120°. The
larger is 20° less than three times the smaller.
4) The measure of a supplement of an angle is
36 more than five times the measure of an
angle. Find the measure of the supplement.

5) The supplement of an angle is four times as large

as the complement of the angle. What is the
measure of the angle?

6) if thrice ∠ A is subtracted from the supplement

of ∠A, the remaining angle exceeds the
complement of ∠A by 3º. Find the measure of ∠ A.
7. Two angles are supplementary. If an angle is eight
less than six times another angle, what is the measure
of the larger angle?

8. Two angles are complementary and their sizes are

in ratio 5:7. What is the size of the smaller of the
two angles?

9. If two supplementary angles have measures

( 5x-23)º and (2x + 7)º, what is the measure of the
smaller angle?
