What is meningitis?
• Meningococcus
• Pneumococcus

• common organisms that cause meningitis
in children.
• caused by bacteria called Neisseria
meningitidis.
• There are several strains of Neisseria
meningitidis.
• Strain B causes about 75 percent of the
meningococcal cases and has the highest
fatality rate.
