To conquer and rule? To worship Allah?

12 1/16/2018
Basic Questions

 Where is my ultimate return?

 Endless life in this world?
 Death: To return to the world in another form?
 Death: Turn into dust forever?
 Death: New life in the hereafter in paradise or
hell?
 Correct answers provided by Islam
13 1/16/2018
 1.1 Evidences of the Existence of
Allah
 The Secret of existence.
1.1.1 We live in a world which consists of a vast number of
creatures. The larger universe surrounding us consists of
even more number of varied creatures. This creation
operates in the most wonderful, marvelous and highly
sophisticated system.

14 1/16/2018
The Secret of existence…ctd.

 Observe the most common phenomenon of creation

around you and consider its perfect operation.
 Look at the sun and the moon, the day and the night
and how they alternate, bringing about darkness and
light.
 Your mind will tell you that these phenomena did not
emerge by chance. There must be some great power
behind their existence and operation. And truly there is.

15 1/16/2018
 1.1.2 Man has been endowed with great
intellect, abilities and the most beautiful
shape and structure.

 He has been given the ability to think, to

ponder, to measure and make decisions. He
uses his intellect to know what is right and
what is wrong.

16 1/16/2018
 Man however, has his weaknesses. He, like other animals

has some instincts, passions and feelings which if left

uncontrolled will demote him to the lower level of animals.

 Man may have great capabilities, but his intellectual,

physical and many other limitations render him subservient
to a greater power Who has absolute control of the
universe and all that it entails.

17 1/16/2018
Man cannot sustain himself on earth without the
bounty and gracious provision of the Great Power.
He cannot even find the path to the truth and
guidance without the help and blessing of this
supreme power.
It is therefore absolutely wrong for man to be
heedless of his weaknesses and to behave
arrogantly because of the limited capabilities that

he has been endowed with.

18 1/16/2018
Who is the Originator and Sustainer of existence?

Impossibility of creation from 
nothingness without a creator.
Mankind and other creatures have not 
created themselves.
The creation of the heavens and the 
earth is a sign of the Originator.
19 1/16/2018
……

 The unique design and arrangement of

the creation around us
 There can only be One Creator,
otherwise there would have been
conflict and great chaos.

20 1/16/2018
………….

 The heavens and the earth and the vast creation in

them could not have emerged accidentally or by
mere chance. Simple logic also affirms that these
creations could not have created themselves.
Impossible! The perfect order of creation, their great
design and the wisdom in their operation are clearly
evident to all sensible and rational human beings.
21 1/16/2018
 The unavoidable and perfectly correct conclusion
therefore, is that there is definitely an Originator and
Sustainer of all creation, seen and unseen. And that
Originator must be Supreme, All Powerful, Wise, Able,
Knowledgeable, Unequal, Perfect, Independent, and
Unique.

 This is the being that we Muslims call Allah. In English, He is

called God.

22 1/16/2018
 The concept of Allah (God) as the Supreme Designer,
Creator, Sustainer, Nourisher and Master of all creation
exists among all normal human societies. This is a clear

evidence of His existence.

.Natural human intellect concludes that there is a creator. In

times of needs and difficulties, human beings look towards

the Divine being..

23 1/16/2018
 Materialist interpretation of life:

 1.2.2 The historical background of the development

of modern science has upset the balance of
rational thinking amongst some people to the
extent of their denying the existence of God. They
marvel at their scientific discoveries and
inventions and arrogantly deny clear
manifestations of their limitations.

24 1/16/2018
 The ignorant and arrogant people recognize only
the outer of this material world and perceive the
life of this world as that of pleasure, play and
amusement and that life and death are mere
natural occurrences that have no relationship
with any Divine will or power.
25 1/16/2018
PURPOSE OF LIFE

 -Worship and show gratitude to the Creator

 Establish the supremacy of Allah
 -Display the wisdom of the Creator
 -Blessings to creation
 -Test and trial to mankind

26 1/16/2018
Failure to comprehend purpose of existence leads to;

 Debasement and degeneration of mankind.

 Degeneration of man to lower ladder of

animals

 Man lives a life of confusion, injustice, chaos

27 1/16/2018

TAUHID….

 True religion:
 True religion (Islam) is built upon the teachings or commands that

emanate from Allah and His messenger according to the understanding

and interpretation of the early Muslims (salaf).

 The views and opinions of scholars are only valid and acceptable if they

agree with the the Qur’an and Sunnah.

75 1/16/2018
TAUHID ctd….

 Weigh things carefully:

 ‘’Carefully consider and ponder over whatever you hear from
anyone of the people of your time. Do not be in a hurry to enter
into something until you ask and consider things carefully. (Ask
yourself) Has anyone among the companions of the messenger of
Allah or among the (early) scholars held that view (which you have
heard)? If you find any report (from them) hold fast unto it and do
not give preference to a different opinion.’’

76 1/16/2018
TAUHID ….

 Islam is submission:
 ‘’The Islam of a person is not complete until he totally
submits (to Allah) in truth and follows all commandments
(and ways of the salaf). He who claims that there are
some things in Islam which have not been sufficiently or
properly covered by the companions has indeed rejected
them and ascribed falsehood to them.’’

77 1/16/2018
:
How people go astray

 People become astray in two ways;

 A person may go astray while his intention is to do
good. Do not imitate him, for indeed he is
misguided.
 And another who rejects the truth and goes
against the ways of the pious people before him.
He is astray and leads others astray. Avoid him.
78 1/16/2018
 Who is a disbeliever?
 ‘’No Muslim is considered a disbeliever until he
rejects a verse of the Qur’an or hadith of the
Prophet (S.A.W) or makes offerings (slaughter of
animals) to other than Allah or prays and
beseeches the help of other than Allah.’’

79 1/16/2018
 Sacredness of Muslim blood:
 ‘’The blood of a Muslim who testifies that there is
no deity worthy of being worshipped except Allah
and Muhammad is His servant and messenger is
sacred, except in three cases:

 One who commits adultery after marriage (Muhsin)

 One who renounces faith after believing
 One who kills a believer unjustly

80 1/16/2018
True knowledge:
 ’The gathering of many reports and books does not necessarily
imply the knowledge of a person. A knowledgeable person is
one who acts in accordance with knowledge and follows the
Sunnah. He who contradicts the Qur’an and Sunnah is an
innovator, no matter how much knowledge, information and
books he has acquired.’’

81 1/16/2018
 Nasiha (Good counselling)

 ‘’It is not lawful to withhold good counseling from

a Muslim in matters of the religion. Whoever

withholds good counseling (nasiha) has cheated

the Muslims (alghush) and by extension, he has

cheated the religion of Islam.’’

82 1/16/2018
 Understanding Tauhid through Hadith:

 ‘’If you hear any person rejecting the hadith of the

Prophet (S.A.W), then be sure his Islam is questionable.

Indeed, it was through hadith that we knew Allah, the

Prophet and the Qur’an, and knew what is good or bad.’’

Unit 10
Companions

 The Companions:
 The companions of the Prophet (S.A.W) are those believers who saw the
Prophet (saw) and heard his sayings.
 The companions are the true disciples of the Prophet (saw). They believed
in him, loved him, supported him in strengthening Islam and sacrificed
their lives and property to promote Islam.
 The companions are a unique generation who lived by the teachings of the
Qur’an .
 They love Allah and they are loved by Him.

87 1/16/2018
..

 ’The best people in this community after the death

of its Prophet (S.A.W.) were Abubakar, Umar and
Uthman; then followed by Aliyu, Talha, Zubair, Sa’ad
ibn Abi Waqqas, Sa’id ibn Zaid, Abdurrahman ibn Auf
and Abu Ubaidah Amir ibn Jarrah; and all of them
were qualified to be caliphs.
88 1/16/2018
..

 Group classification:
 1. Those who attended Badr ( Muhajirun then Ansar)
 2. Muhajirun in general
 3. Ansar in general
 Difference in degree according to year of conversion to
Islam or Hijrah or length of companionship of the Prophet
 A companion who saw the Prophet, believed in him, heard
from him even once is better than the Tabi’i who had not
seen the Prophet
89 1/16/2018
Prohibition of denigrating the
companions

 The companions had made great sacrifices and contributions in

nursing Islam, protecting it and promoting its development.
 They were the best of all communities and generations as
attested by Qur’an and hadith.
 They were models of an ideal Muslim community.
 The Prophet had prohibited the believers from talking ill of his
companions, abusing them or denigrating their integrity.
 None loves them but a believer and none hates them but a
hypocritical innovator.
