Guidelines for value education
• Universal: value education has to be universally applicable to
all human beings & be true at all times.
• Rational : not based on blind belief
• Natural and Verifiable: acceptable in nature & verify these
values ourselves.
• All Encompassing : aimed at transforming our consciousness
and living. It cover all dimensions of our living – thought,
behavior, work, and understanding as well as all levels –
individual, family, society and nature.
• Leading to Harmony: finally, value education has to anable us
to be in harmony(to be similar).
Content of value education
• Value of any unit in this existence is its
participation in the larger order.
• E.g. pen

What is the participation of a human being ??

Hence to understand human values, we need to

study the human reality & the role of human
being in the realation ship with each and every
unit in the existence.
Process of value education
• We will verify these proposals through Self
exploration- in our own right.
• It is on the basis of proposals acceptable to us in
a natural manner, not just imposed externally.
• Self-exploration will also include verifying the
proposals through experiential validation
• This process is expected to initiate a
transformation in our understanding, in our
consciousness and our living.
• The process of Value Education has to be that of
Self Exploration, and not of giving sermons or
telling dos and don’ts.
Human Values Vs Moral Values
• Moral values regard matters of right and wrong
whereas Human values help a person to distinguish
between right and wrong.
• Moral values are constant and unchanging whereas
Human values change from person to person and from
time to time.
• Moral values are for self development and self
discipline whereas Human values is about how we
treat others in society.
• Moral values can be taught whereas Human values are
inherited values and are intact in all of us.
Self-exploration
• What is self-exploration???
• It is the process to findout what is valuable to me
by investigating within myself. Through self
exploration we get the value of ourselves.
• The main focus of self exploration is myself- the
human being.
• Why should we investigate ??
ANSWER: since it is me who feels  or ,
successful or unsuccessful, therefore whatever is
right for me, true for me, has to be judged within
myself.
Content of self exploration
• Content of self exploration is just finding the
answers to the following fundamental
questions:
• 1. The DESIRE/GOAL: WHAT IS MY DESIRE?
What do I really want in life? What is the goal
of human life?
• 2. PROGRAM/PLAN: How to fulful it?
What is my plan for fulfilling the desire?
What is the plan to actualize the above?
What is its purpose?
• It is process of :
a)dialogue between ‘ What you are’ and ‘ What you really
want to be’.
B) Self evoulution through self investigation
c) knowing oneself and through that, knowing entire existence.
d) recognizing one’s relationship with every unit in existence
and fulfilling it.
e)Knowing human conduct, human character and living
accordingly.
f)being harmony within yourself and in harmony with
everything around.
g) Identifying SVATVA- INNATENESS, and moving towards slf-
organization (swatantra), and self-expression (swarajya).
• SWATVA: innateness of self- the natural
acceptance of harmony
• Swatantra: being self-organized-being in
harmony with oneself
• Swarajya: self-expresssion, self-extension-
living in harmony with others.
Mechanisim of self exploration
• NATURAL ACCEPTANCE: it is the process to
understand ourself first. It implies unconditional
and total acceptance of the self, people &
environment. E.g. chalk
• EXPERIENTIAL VALIDATION: it is a process that
infuses direct experience with the learning
environment & content. Most of us what we
know about ourself is not only through our own
opinion of our self but also because of others
view.
Natural acceptance
• Natural acceptance does not change with time
• It does not depend on the place
• It does not depend on our beliefs or past
conditionings
• Natural acceptance is “constantly there”,
something we refer to
• Natural acceptance is the same for all of us: it
is part and parcel of every human being
Human being nature/existence
(other humans, animals,
participation plants, soil, etc)
What is the way out? What do we
need to do ?
REALIZATION
&
UNDERSTANDING
As we verify the proposals on the basis of our natural
acceptance & experiential validation by living
according to it, ultimately results in “realization” &
“understanding” in us.
This means, knowing something to be “true”, for sure,
within ourselves.
REALIZATION & UNDERSTANDING

• Keep asking again & again

• Assuring: “I am assured of the answer or
understanding in myself .”
• Satisfying: “I am satisfied that the answers are fulfilling
for me. ”
• Universal: “I know or realize that the answers I have
got are the same for everyone. ”
• They are invariant with respect to:
• i) Time: these answers are the same at all times: past,
present & future.
• ii) space: these answers are the same at all places or
locations
• iii) individual: the answers are the same for every
human being.
What do we want?
The basic human aspiration-
continuous HAPPINESS & PROSPERITY
• Continuous happiness and prosperity is our basic
aspirations
• We succeed or not but still we keep trying throughout our
life for hapiness.
Exploring happiness & prosperity:
Happiness:- looking with in, when I have harmony in my
thoughts, my feelings, I feel relaxed, happy.
Thus we can understand HAPPINESS as:
“ the state/ situation in which I live, if there is
harmony/synergy in it, then I like to be in that state or
situation.”
“To be in a state of liking is happiness”.
Unhappy:- “ the state/ situation in which I live, if
there is conflict/contradiction in it, then I
donot like to be in that state or situation.”
“To be in a state of disliking is unhappiness”.
or
“To be in a state of disharmony or
contradiction is unhappiness”.
prosperity
• Prosperity is the feeling of having or making
available more than required “physical
facilities”.
• To asertain properity, two things are essential:
• A) correct assessment of need for physical
facilities, and
• B) The competence of making available more
than required physical facilities(through
production)
