• Trait theory
– A leader has personal traits that are different to most
people
– A leader has the ability to adapt easily with the
environment
– Has the ability to withstand pressure
– Ready to take on responsibility
• Behavioural Theory
– Authoritarian leadership - leaders will direct
subordinates involvement in decision making.
– Democratic leadership - leaders encourages discussions
and share in decision making.
– Laissez-faire leadership - leaders give full freedom to
subordinates in making their own decisions
• Theory X and Y
