Two Contrasts

Isaiah and Uzziah

Losing or getting the anointing
Here I am, send me
Our Focus Tonight: more anointing?

• -God’s vision of bring up a people whom know their God, People after his own heart.
• Know about God, spoken about God, but having God reveal himself to us in more of His
fullness.

• I really want to know my God, not only know about Him. Isaiah 6:1.

• What is said about people whom know their God?

• Daniel 11:32 but the people who do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

• Without the miraculous, I would not be saved. God witnessing his

power when we talk about him.

• What is stopping us from really knowing our God.

• Ears
King Uzziah

• Uzziah took the throne at the age of 16,and reigned for about 52 years. under the influence of a
prophet named Zechariah, he was faithful to God, and "did that which was right in the sight of the
Lord" (2 Kings 15:3; 2 Chronicles 26:4-5)

• And as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. His reign was "the most prosperous
excepting that of Jehoshaphat since the time of Solomon.“

• But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the
LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.

• He entered the temple of the Jehovah to burn incense on the altar of incense. Azariah the High
Priest and confronted him with a band of eighty priests, saying, "It is not right for you, Uzziah, to
burn incense to Jehovah. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been
consecrated to burn incense." (2 Chronicles 26:18)

• In the meantime a great earthquake shook the ground and a rent was made in the temple, and the
bright rays of the sun shone through it, and fell upon the king's face, insomuch that the leprosy
seized upon him immediately. (Josephus Flavius, Antiquities IX 10:4). Leoprocy: the bible
example of hidden sin,or pride.

Contrast Uzziah’s encounter with God to that of Isaiah.

Isaiah (6:1 onwards)
• 1In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and
his train filled the temple. 2Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he
covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

• 3And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full
of his glory.

• 4And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with
smoke.

• 5Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the
midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

• 6Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with
the tongs from off the altar: 7And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips;
and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

• 8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I,
Here am I; send me.

• 9And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but
perceive not.

• 10Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see
with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be
healed.
Think of the vision a moment: What did Isaiah see:
• His train filled the temple.—The word for “temple” is that which expresses its character as the
palace of the great King. (Comp. Psalm 11:4; Psalm 29:9; Habakkuk 2:20.) The “train” answers to
the skirts of the glory of the Lord, who clothes Himself with light as with a garment.

• Revelations 22 says The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God
gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

• There is a point beyond which it is too personal, too awesome for man to explain. The human
authors of the Scriptures do the best they can.

• This is the God who creates, who spoke life into being.

• Genesis 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day
from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15and let them be
for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.…

• Is this a God you would like to know? In my heart there is a yearning.

• But is this a God that I am ready to do what He wants in order to know him:

• Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

King Uzziah: What the evil of Leprosy can do to a man
When Uzziah dies the real King becomes visible.
• The earthly king was dead;

• Isaiah saw that the saw that the true King of Israel was neither the
dead Uzziah nor the young Jotham, but God himself. Woe is me.

• God sits on the Throne of the universe.

• And this God has a question for us: Whom can I send, who will go
for us?:

• How often are we going to answer “Hear I am, send me”?

• Precondition for this answer is that we allow him to sit on the

throne of our lives.
Uzziah disobedience was related to his pride: When he was
strong his heart was lifted up to his destruction:

• Obedience, not religious sacrifice, is what God most desires.

• Hebrews 10:5-6 (NKJV) Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:
“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire… In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure.”

• Uzziah: “When he was strong his heart was lifted up to his destruction”

• It is even sadder that Uzzian transgressed by making the sacrificial offering in the
temple. In plain English, Uzziah knew what was right and wrong but he did it
anyway.

• When we are allowing God to sit on the throne we are going to know immediately
what is right or wrong.

• I find in my own life that resistance leads to disobedience. Its in our mind that it
is better to obey than sacrifice, but it is not always in our DNA.
Let’s examine pride briefly: The two aspects of Pride

• First aspect of pride: Pride brings disobedience:

• The root of pride is that I want to be Lord of my life instead of letting Jesus be Lord
of my life. “Obedience is the manifestation of Him being Lord of my life.” There are
other reasons for disobedience: selfishness, unbelief, fear and doubt , but the
biggest is Pride. The great song… My way…. I’ve done it my way.

• Want to hear from God more and see His working in your lives more: Agree with
him that God has the right to be Lord of your life on a daily basis and ask him to
speak clearly to you in each circumstance.

• God is not the copilot, he is the pilot and does not need a copilot.

• The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delighteth in his ways,
though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the right hand of the Lord
upholdeth him. Psalm 37
Second aspect of pride: Can Pride bring obedience to God?

• J.C. Hedgecock: “The number one wrong reason people obey God is because
of pride.”

• What does Jesus say? Matthew 23:27

• "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like
whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are
full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.”

• Spiritual Pride makes us want to be esteemed of men. (in this case other
Christians). just call me “Apostle John” not sure this is better than King John.
VainGlory: Christian Testosterone. The only way around this is Philippians:
• 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other
better than themselves.

• 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

• Spiritual Pride and let’s do something for God: also can quite often be the author of good
intentioned, well meaning but dead works:
Come back to this another day: I firmly believe that the
root of Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil is pride.

• Evil branch, can cause the person to rebel against God and then
disobey God.

• Good Branch, succeeds in puffing us up in knowledge and self-

righteousness. “There is a good that is not from God.”

• Pride brings Death:

• What did God say about the Tree of the knowledge of Good and
Evil: Genesis 2:17 The LORD God commanded the man, saying,
"From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17but from the
tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the
day that you eat from it you will surely die."
But when we put on the mind of Christ: we have an advantage:
the spirit of the fear of the Lord
• Isaiah Chapter 11: This spirit of the Lord shall rest on Jesus:
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,

the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—

3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;
4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

• But Jesus’ delight is in the fear of the Lord.

• Hebrews Chapter 5: Jesus prayers were heard because of his Godly fear. (reverent submission.

– V. 7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could
save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

– “Because you have loved righteousness, and hated

Hebrews 1: do you not remember what I said to my son.
lawlessness (sin) therefore God, even your God hast anointed you more than your companions. “
– John Bevere: God, why is there not a stronger anointing (authority) on my life? God: “Because you tolerate sin”.
– Joseph Hedgecock: Light, chapter what hinders faith.
Some time ago I ran across a wedding prayer that
illustrates how subtly we can substitute religious talk
for obedience. This is a girl praying on her wedding day:

• "Dear God. I can hardly believe that this is my wedding day. I know I haven’t been able to spend much time with
You lately, with all the rush of getting ready for today, and I’m sorry. I guess, too, that I feel a little guilty when I try
to pray about all this, since Larry still isn’t a Christian. But oh, Father, I love him so much, what else can I do? I just
couldn’t give him up. Oh, You must save him, some way, somehow.

• You know how much I’ve prayed for him, and the way we’ve discussed the gospel together. I’ve tried not to appear
too religious, I know, but that’s because I didn’t want to scare him off. But he’s not totally against you or anything.
I can’t understand why he hasn’t responded. Oh, if he only were a Christian.

• Dear Father, please bless our marriage. I don’t want to disobey You, but I do love him and I want to be his wife, so
please be with us and please don’t spoil my wedding day."

• That sounds like a sincere, earnest prayer, does it not? But if it is stripped of its fine, pious language, it is really
saying something like this:

• "Dear Father, I don’t want to disobey You, but I must have my own way at all costs. For I love what You do not love,
and I want what You do not want. So please be a good God and deny Yourself, and move off Your throne, and let
me take over. If You don’t like this, then all I ask is that You bite Your tongue and don’t say or do anything that will
spoil my plans, but let me enjoy myself."

• In Luke 6:46, the Lord says, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
Qualifications of sharing God’s secrets

The year that King Uzziah died. Lets get rid of the leprosy.

Paul knew him intimately, the degree that Pride dies, the more we will know him intimately. He must increase,
I must decrease.

Ambassadors don’t come to write their own ideas, instead they speak for what they have sent him.

Isaiah 57: 15, For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the
high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and
to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
But to this man will I look, even unto him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

Then what does Isaiah say: Messianic Hope, Whom hath believed our report and to whom is the arm of the
Lord revealed? Isaiah 53

Here I am send me. Isn’t that what you want? Isn’t that what we all want?
• Not necessary to beg God to do something, he is more willing than we are.

• If you want this, put away what is not pleasing to God. My own issue is trust, you deal with your own
issues.
God wants to share some of his secrets tonight
Physical healing of Ears:

• Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and

your soul shall live; and I will make an
everlasting covenant with you, Isaiah 55:3

• He that hath an ear, let him hear what the

Spirit is saying to the Churches. Rev 3:6
