Traditions
History

• During its history, the area has


also been known
as Congo, Congo Free State,
Belgian Congo, and Zaire. The
Kingdom of Kongo was a
powerful kingdom that existed
between the 14th and the
early 19th century. It was the
dominant force in the region
until the Portuguese showed
up.

Geography

• The Republic of the Congo is located in the western part


of Central Africa. Situated on the Equator, it is bordered by
the Angola

several important ports. The Republic of the Congo covers an
area of 342,000 km², of which 341,500 km² is land while

of Primary School to the Highest Certificate.

In the Congo the people make their own music based on the ancient
tribal music of their ancestors. Here are a few.

Music
Films
Many films have been set in the Congo,
both for education and science like
Virunga, a documentary about the hunting
of gorillas, and other films like Congo, a
story about an Rescue team searching for a
lost exploration crew, who stumble upon
ancient lost ruins, only to encounter savage
hybrid killer gorillas in their midst. The
Congo has been the set for countless films.
• Soccer is the most popular sports in the
Republic of Congo. The
Congolese football Federation was founded in
1962 and became soon became accredited by
the International Federation of Football
Association or FIFA. The National Soccer
Team is nicknamed “Les Diables Rouges,” or
The Red Devils.

working or hunting or
enjoying yourself playing
or watching the beloved

Fashion
In the Congo fashion isn’t a huge
deal but there are women who
devote themselves to it. Known as
"Sapeurs," these dapper dressers
are part of a Congolese subculture
devoted to style.
• They have the Virunga national park- a national gorilla
park where you can view gorillas in there national
habitat
• Lake kivu- it has fresh fish, volcanos, and safaris
• Okapi Wildlife Reserve- Wildlife, safaris, and beautiful
nature
• Lake Tanganyika- chimpanzees, scuba diving, and
fishing

Tourist
Attractions
Although the Congo is very diverse in it’s food
options, here are their specialties
• Moambe: DRC's national dish consisting of
chicken or fish with cassava leaves, hot pepper
sauce, bananas, rice, peanuts, fish, chicken, and
palm nuts.
• Chikwanga: Cassava cooked and stored in
banana leaves.
• Fufu: A sticky, dough-like staple made
from cassava flour.

Food and Drink


There are many languages spoken in the Congo, from the
ancient languages spoken for thousands of years, to the
languages that stuck from the conquerors of this land.
