Peri-urban area is a multi-dimensional

Due to the high level of urbanization, industrialization, and urban sprawl in Pekanbaru City led to
the pattern of urban development moving towards the peri peri-urban area. This condition leads to
a shift in the high land use from agriculture to non-agricultural in peri peri-urban areas.

Identify and analyze the level of land use change in peri-urban area of ​Pekanbaru City from 2013 –
2016

From the data, it can be analyzed the level of land use change in Peri-Urban area of ​Pekanbaru
City from 2013 - 2016 that occurred in 7 districts. Where the level of land use change is

divided into three classes (fast, medium, and slow). With the determination of the range of
levels are:
Class Range Level = (Maximum-Value Value) / (Number of Classes)
Class Range Level = (21.00-5.07) / 3
Class Ranges Level = 5.31
Conclution of

 Based on the draft of Pekanbaru City Spatial Plan 2013-2033 the urban peri
periban of Pekanbaru City is designated as a water catchment area and is not
allowed as a residential area.
 However, based on the results of research indicate if in the Urban Peri area
of ​Pekanbaru City, especially in Rumbai District, the land use change from
agriculture to settlement.
 This will certainly cause problems in the city environment, because basically the
function of the peri peri-urban area is to support the growth of the city.
 The most appropriate strategy to overcome this problem is by arranging and
monitoring the peri peri-urban land use periodically and applying the compact
city concept in Pekanbaru City.
 This concept will prevent the occurrence of urban sprawl which is the main cause
of soaring land use changes in the Urban Peri area Pekanbaru City.
 This concept has been applied to several advanced cities in the world such as
Japan, China, Europe, and America. This concept essentially focuses on
development in downtown area and restore the function of urban peri periban
Pekanbaru as water catchment area or agriculture area and other green area by
optimizing land use in accordance with carrying capacity and land capacity.
