REMOTE NOTICE

BOARD USING GSM

WITH SMS
INTRODUCTION

In the fast developing world today, the need to control electrical appliances

from far away is becoming a necessity. This project titled “SMS BASED

DEVICE CONTROLLING SYSTEM Using GSM technology” aims at

controlling our home appliances from a remote location by sending a SMS.

Once mastered, this technique can be extended to control more than just

home appliance. This approach gives rise to various possibilities as far as

the application part is concerned. The basic aim remains to automatically

receive and recognize the SMS sent from a remote location.

Power Supply unit
 In this first a step-down transformer used to step down A.C. 230Volts
to A.C. 12Volts.

 This is given as input to the bridge diode circuit which gives a D.C.
Voltage.

 This D.C. voltage is fed to the 78XX series fixed voltage regulator to
get the required voltage of fixed +5Volts D.C.
MICROCONTROLLER(8051)

ADVANTAGES OF MICROCONTROLLERS

 Their powerful, cleverly chosen electronics is able to control a variety of

processes and devices independently or by means of I/O instruments etc.

 Their low cost makes them suitable for installing in places which attracted
no such interest in the past.

 Writing and loading a program into microcontroller requires practically no

previous knowledge. All that is required is: any PC and one simple device
(programmer) for loading a written program into microcontroller.
GSM Module
GSM/GPRS Smart Modem is a multi-functional
, ready to use, rugged unit that can be embedded
or plugged into any application.
The Smart Modem can be controlled
and customized to various levels by
using the standard AT commands.
The modem is fully type-approved, it can speed up the operational time
with full range of Voice, Data, Fax and Short Messages (Point to Point
and Cell Broadcast), the modem also supports GPRS (Class 2*) for
spontaneous data transfer.
 GSM Modem Product, provides full functional capability to Serial devices to send

SMS and Data over GSM Network. The modem is available as Board Level or

enclosed in Metal Box. The Board Level product can be integrated in to Various

Serial devices in providing them SMS and Data capability and the unit housed in a

Metal Enclosure can be kept outside to provide serial port connection.. The

product has SIM Card holder to which activated SIM card is inserted for normal

use. The power to this unit can be given from UPS to provide uninterrupted

operation. This product provides great feasibility for Devices in remote location to

stay connected which otherwise would not have been possible where telephone

lines do not exist

Applications of GSM
 Mobile Transport vehicles.

 LAN based SMS servers

 Alarm notification of critical events including Servers

 Network Monitoring and SMS reporting

 Data Transfer applications from remote locations

 Monitor and control of Serial services through GSM Network

 Integration to custom software for Warehouse, Stock, Production, Dispatch

notification through SMS.

 AMR- Automatic Meter Reading

SERIAL communication
To allow compatibility among data
communication equipment made by
various manufacturers, an
interfacing standard called RS232
was set by the Electronics Industries
Association (EIA) in 1960. In 1963 it
was modified and called RS232A.
RS232B and RS232C were

issued in 1965

and 1969, respectively. Today, RS232 standard is the most widely used serial
I/O interfacing standard. This standard is used in PCs and numerous types of
equipment. However, since the standard was set long before the advent of TTL
logic family, its input and output voltages are not TTL compatible.
RS232 Standard & LEVEL CONVERTER

 This is the standard used in serial

communication. It is defined as

1. Logic0 is represented by 3Volts to 25

Volts

2. Logic1 is represented by -3Volts to -25

Volts

3. From -3Volts to +3Volts is undefined.

4. The electronic device used for

converting digital data to rs232
standard is MAX232.
Display Unit
 Display that we are using is 16X2 LCD which can display 16
chars in one line and we can display two such lines
