What is Noun Clause?
A noun clause is a clause that plays the role of a noun in a sentence. Noun clauses will contain a
subject and a verb, but they cannot stand alone in a sentence.
Noun clauses can be used to name something when a single word isn't
enough. It's also important to remember that these clauses are dependent
clauses. A dependent clause is one that cannot stand by itself. If a dependent
clause is placed alone, it forms a fragment, not a full sentence. An independent
clause can act as a sentence by itself, but dependent clauses cannot.
Example :
• What she said was true.
• That she can debut as an actress is her dream.
• Whether I can pass the test or not will be known next week.
Object of Sentence
Object of Preposition
This type of noun clause is laid right after the preposition and is used as an object in a
sentence. The preposition can be like : from, of, with, about, for, etc.
Form :
S + V + preposition + Question Words (who, when, where, how, why, what) + S +V
Example : Example :
• Those equipments are what we need to bring. • Eka would like to thank me for what I have done
• The fact is that she is smart and dilligent. for her.
• The winner will be whoever gets the most votes. • We will start our journey from where we have
decided before.
