PURPOSE AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Recognize and more fully appreciate the salient characteristics
of the “New Normal”, the challenges of managing and leading in
an era of tumultuous change
• Develop key skills for leading in an era of tumultuous change
• Focusing on measurable results, improvement and
innovation, not “The CHANGE”
• Building change readiness (not overcoming resistance)
• Fostering employee engagement, not begrudging compliance
• Selling the challenge, not the solution
• Supporting people through the transitions
• Becoming a better informed consumer and practitioner of
change models and tools

Some Starting Premises
• This is a very, very BIG and important TOPIC and we
have very, very short TIME
– Do a few key things well rather than try to be
comprehensive
• Focus on the end in mind -- the learning objectives and
the final exam questions -- and then learn our way
through it together
• Professor as coach and partner rather than inquisitor,
adversary, or “Sage on a Stage”
– Here to facilitate your individual learning within a
shared learning community

Discussion Forums
• Thoughtful and regular participation in two Discussion Forums.
• Your posts should move the discussion forward by connecting
prior posts with:
• Quality responses to the questions (insightful and thorough yet appropriately concise)
• Illustrative personal/professional example(s) demonstrating a point
• Citing sources, reference(s) and connections to something we have read or should be
reading
• Data, statistics, or qualitative evidence for or against a position
• Value added links and websites for more information or to illuminate a point
• Quality (thoughtfulness, insightfulness, helpfulness, etc.) of your engagement in the
discussion forum including quantity of your comments on your colleague’s posts

Evaluating the Discussion Forums
Here is the 0-10 point scale that I use to evaluate posts in
the discussion forums:
?-0 Indicates I couldn’t find any evidence that you did
actually this
3-5 Says you put in limited to no effort
6-7 Suggests OK to fair work (and that you can probably
do better)
8-9 Reflects good to excellent work
10 Literally shouts “Totally Awesome!!!!!!!
