What is the ADA?

 A set of Civil Rights Laws that prohibits discrimination


against individuals with disabilities.
 The ADA became a law in the year 1990.
 The ADA is divided into five sections also called titles.

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities
Act (State and Local Government)
 Prohibits against discrimination of individuals in all public
programs and public programs and service entitles.
 It helps to clarify Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of
1973.
 It outlines guidelines to make reasonable
accommodations to policies, practices, and procedures
where discrimination can be avoided.

 Captions are used for individuals who are


 blind and can hear the audio but cant see what is happening
 deaf and can see what is happening in the video but not hear
the audio.

 Captions are NOT subtitles but are texts of what


is being said on a video.
 Captions must appear at the same time as the
sound that is being captioned.
ALT Tag

 An alternate text that describes what is displayed on a picture.


 Provides clear text that helps blind and visually impaired persons
using screen readers.
 Required on every image to pass accessibility guidelines set by the
ADA.
Blinking and Flashing Content

 Pictures and Videos that flash or flicker can trigger


seizures in some individuals.
 Accessibility guidelines require users to refrain from using
blinking and flashing lights to meet accessibility
requirements.
 Not only do blinking and flashing lights cause harm to
individuals with disabilities but are considered very
annoying and distracting.
Sip & Puff Technology

How Sip and Puff Technology Works

 There are four different types of input used to activate the Sip and
Puff while on a motorized wheelchair
 An initial hard puff will trigger the wheelchair to move
 A hard puff while the wheelchair is moving will trigger the wheelchair to
stop.
 Continuous soft sipping and puffing in the straw will trigger the
wheelchair to turn left or right.
Ghotit Assistive Technology

 A software program used to assist people with dyslexia and


dysgraphia.
 Uses algorithms to read text for individuals that have trouble with
reading skills.
 Can detect Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar mistakes.
