INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS ELECTRIC CAR ?
An electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors,
using electrical energy stored in rechargeable batteries.
An electric car is powered by an electric motor instead of a gasoline engine.
The electric motor gets energy from a controller, which regulates the amount of power
based on the driver’s use of an accelerator pedal.
The electric car (also known as electric vehicle or EV) uses energy stored in its
rechargeable batteries, which are recharged by common household electricity.

Aims and Objectives
 The basic idea of this project is to convert gasoline engine car to electric
car.
 the basic idea of this project is based on electric car that how much
electric car is better than gasoline engine.
 How can be reduce the emissions problems caused by gasoline engine.
 How this idea can made environment friendly by electrical energy
instead of gasoline engines car and hybrid car.
PARAMETERS 6

 electric car for two passengers

4 wheeler
seating capacity= 2 person
 Gross vehicle weight (GVW) :
fixed weight=200kg
pay weight=150kg
Gross vehicle weight (GVW) =350kg
PARAMETERS 7

 Constraints:
track width > 1.5m
height > 1.2m
 Speed:
40km/hr
Design 8

 Total tractive effort(TTE):

TTE [N] = RR [N] + GR [N]

Where:
RR = force necessary to overcome rolling resistance [N]
GR = force required to climb a grade [N]
9

 Rolling Resistance (RR) :

RR [N] = GVW [N] x Crr
RR[N]=350[kg] x 9.81[m/sec2] x 0.015
RR[N]=51.50N
where:
GVW = gross vehicle weight [N]
Crr = surface friction (from table)
Crr=0.015 is the value of rolling co-efficient of ordinary car tires on concrete
Rolling Resistance
Coefficient 10
c cl (mm)
0.001 - 0.002 0.5 railroad steel wheels on steel rails
0.001 bicycle tire on wooden track
0.002 - 0.005 low resistance tubeless tires
0.002 bicycle tire on concrete
0.004 bicycle tire on asphalt road
0.005 dirty tram rails
0.006 - 0.01 truck tire on asphalt
0.008 bicycle tire on rough paved road
0.01 - 0.015 ordinary car tires on concrete, new asphalt, cobbles small new
0.02 car tires on tar or asphalt
0.02 car tires on gravel - rolled new
0.03 car tires on cobbles - large worn
0.04 - 0.08 car tire on solid sand, gravel loose worn, soil medium hard
0.2 - 0.4 car tire on loose sand
11

 Grade resistance(GR):
GR = GVW [N] x sin(α)
GR =350[kg] x 9.81[m/sec2] x sin(5°)
GR =299.24N
where:
GR = grade resistance [N]
GVW = gross vehicle weight [N]
α = maximum incline angle [degrees]
12

 Total tractive effort(TTE):

TTE [N] = RR [N] + GR [N]
TTE = 51.50[N] + 299.24[N]
TTE = 350.74 [N]
 Torque = TTE x Rw
torque = 350.74[N] x 0.2032[m]
torque = 71.27[Nm]
where:
Rw = radius of wheel
Rw = 8[inch] = 0.2032 [m]
13

 Acceleration (a):
TTE= ma
350.74 [N]=350[kg] * a[m/sec2]
a = 0.99 [m/sec2]
This is the acceleration limit if we increase the acceleration applied to
car the tire will be skid.
 Time[sec]:
acceleration[a] = velocity[m/sec]/ time[sec]
14

a = (Vmax – Vinitial)/ time

0.99[m/sec2] = (11.11 – 0)[m/sec]/ time[sec]
time = 11.22[sec]
this the Time in which the car will reach the final velocity from initial velocity
Where:
Vmax = 40[km/hr] = 11.11[m/sec]
Vinitial = 0[km/hr]
15

 Velocity(V) = radius[r] × angular velocity(ω)

V=r×ω
11.11[m/sec] = 0.2032 × ω
ω = 54.67[rad/sec]
ω = (2 × π × N)/60
N = 523[rpm]
16

 Power [Watt]:
P = (2 × π × N × T)/60
p= T × ω ω= (2 × π × N) /60
p = 71.27[Nm] × 54.67[rad/sec]
p = 3896.33[Watt]
p = 3.89 Kwatt
1HP = 746 watt
HP = 3896.33/ 746
HP = 5.22 hp
17

 Power
power= force × velocity
p=F×V
p = 350.74[N] × 11.11[m/sec]
p = 3896.72 watt
