WHAT’S THE DEFINITION OF LAND SUBSIDENCE?

• Subsidence (land subsidence) is a process of land subsidence movement

that is based on a particular datum (geodetic reference frame).
• Generally occurs in areas which had been a swamp, delta, flood sediment,
etc. were diverted land use planning function without engineering the
ground first.

Land subsidence in Jakarta's

largest predominantly in the
northern part of Jakarta. Each
year, a decline of 5 to 10 cm, as a
result 40% of Jakarta is below sea
level. Land subsidence is
influenced by the condition of
the ground water level and the
effect of consolidation.
WHAT’S THE CAUSES OF LAND SUBSIDENCE IN JAKARTA?

1. Decrease naturally
Rocks is experienced and the
condition is exacerbated by the increasing
trend of sea level to nearly in most cities of
the world due to global warming

2. Excessive ground water extraction.

Jakarta residents use ground water to meet
their needs. But over time, the need for
water increases, so the utilization of ground
water was also increased. Increased
utilization of ground water caused a land
subsidence in Jakarta. Increased utilization of
groundwater in Jakarta occurred due to
several factors, such as urbanization and
population density Jakarta, as well as
industrial activities.
WHAT’S THE CAUSES OF LAND SUBSIDENCE IN JAKARTA?

3. Loads of buildings in North Jakarta.

But among these factors, excessive ground

water extraction is an important factor that is
suspected as the cause of land subsidence in

5. Building construction and spatial

planning that considers the

distribution of groundwater brackish

CONCLUSION
• Extraction of ground over the limit is one of the causes of Land
Subsidence.

• Excessive development is also one of the causes of Land Subsidence,

especially in big cities.

• Tanjungpriok is a potential area once submerged due to sea flooding. This

is because the area has an elevation of 0 meters above sea level so that
when the tide is in, the water will overflow and inundate the region.
ADVICE FOR THE GOVERNMENT
• The government should be more sensitive and concerned about
environmental damage, especially to land subsidence. Government can
using GPS land subsidence can be monitored continuously and rapidly
tackle.
• DKI Jakarta Provincial Government emphasize to the community
legislation on the use of groundwater, namely Regulation No. 10/1998,
Bylaw No. 8/2007 about Public Order, Regulation No. 17/2010 about
ground water tax, and Regulation No. 1/2004 on groundwater. It is
intended that the extraction of ground can be controlled in accordance
with applicable regulations.
