FUNDAMENTALS
Dancing

• is entertainment
• gives fun to both the performance
and the spectator in terms of
feelings being experienced while
performing and watching
respectively
Arms and Feet Positions

First Position
• Arms slightly raised and encircled
in front at chest level
• Heels together and toes at about
45 degree.
Second Position

• Arms slightly raised sideways


below shoulder level
• feet parallel at about shoulder
width
Third Position

• Encircle one arm overhead while


the other is raised sideways
• heel of one foot touching the
instep of the other foot
Fourth Position

• Encircle one arm overhead while


the other is placed in front at
chest
• Open-crossed. heel of front foot
touching the toes of the rear foot
Fifth Position

• Raise both arms overhead with


fingers slightly apart
• Close-crossed. heels in front foot
touching the toes of the rear foot
Common Dance Formation
• Column formation-partners face
audience, boy is on the left of the girl.

standing side by side facing the audience.

Dance terms

• Clockwise- Movement following the


directions of the hands of the clock
• Counter-clockwise- Moving opposite
direction of the hands of the clock
• Curtsy- to bow by slightly bending
the body and knee,stepping one foot
sideward and pointing the other foot
to the rear across the front foot.
• Close position- Partners hold in
ballroom dancing positionfacing each
other, the girl is placed slightly to the
right of the boy.
• Open position- partners in ballroom
position facing the direction of the
extended arms.
• Promenade- partners standing side by
side,hold in skating position with left
shouldertowards the center, walkaround
in a counter-clockwise direction untill
reaching their original place.
• Do-Si-Do - Partners face each other,
move forward passing R(L), move
sideward passing R(L) across and walk
backward to proper places without
turning around, passing L(R) shoulder.
• Free foot- The foot not carrying the
body.
• Inside foot- the foot nearest to the
partner when standing side by side.
• Outside foot- the foot away from the
partner when standing side by side.
• Outside hand- the hand away from
partner when standing side by side
