ATTAINMENT OF COs & POs

Course Outcomes
• Each course is designed to meet (about 3-6)
Course Outcomes
• The Course Outcomes are stated in such a way
that they can be actually measured through
direct and indirect assessment.
• Questions asked in various examinations are
used for direct assessment.
ASSESSMENT OF COs
MAPPING OF COs WITH EXAMINATION FOR DIRECT ASSESSMENT
• Percentage of resemblance with each COs of one course is assigned for
each test.
• Column-wise sum will be equal to 100% as shown in the given example
ASSESSMENT FORMULAE
𝑀𝛼 = Marks of the student in exam (α) out of 100
𝑀𝑀𝛼 = Maximum marks scored in the given exam (α) out of 100

Using the above formula, attainment of Course Outcome is to be calculated for each
student.

The final attainment of a given Course Outcome is derived through calculation of the mean (𝑋)
and standard deviation (𝜎) of the attainment of the given Course Outcome and evaluating it as
per the following formula

𝐶𝑂 𝐴𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡(𝜽) 𝑊𝑒𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑁𝑜. 𝑜𝑓 𝑆𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠

𝜽 > 𝑋ത + 1.5 ∗ 𝜎 10 A
𝑋ത + 1.0 ∗ 𝜎 < 𝜽 ≤ 𝑋ത + 1.5 ∗ 𝜎 9 B
𝑋ത + 0.5 ∗ 𝜎 < 𝜽 ≤ 𝑋ത + 1.0 ∗ 𝜎 8 C
𝑋ത < 𝜽 ≤ 𝑋ത + 0.5 ∗ 𝜎 7 D
𝑋ത − 0.5 ∗ 𝜎 < 𝜽 ≤ 𝑋ത 6 E
𝑋ത − 1.0 ∗ 𝜎 < 𝜽 ≤ 𝑋ത − 0.5 ∗ 𝜎 5 F

CO-PO Relationship
• Each CO can be identified to address a subset of
POs
• Based on the nature of COs the target strength of
mapping (1, 2 or 3) to POs is decided.
• Based on these strengths of selected POs, CO-PO
matrix is established.
