 The endocrown is a restorative option for
endodontically treated teeth.

The choice of restoration for an Endodontically treated

tooth is dependenton the amount of coronal
tooth tissue left.

The fracture resistance of endodontically treated

teeth ∞ the residual amount of tooth structure.

Anterior teeth less prone to fracture than

posterior teeth, aesthetics is a major

 A number of options are available in

every clinical situation. The choice depends
on the structural integrity of the tooth, esthetic,
and protective requirement
 1728- Pierre Fauchard described the use
of “tenons,” - metal posts screwed
into the roots of teeth to retain bridges.

 Mid-1800s - wood replaced metal

as the post material, called the “pivot crown,”

Late 19th century - the “Richmond

crown,”

 1930s, the custom cast post-and-core was

developed to replace the one-piece post crowns.

 The 3 clinical trials (published between 1999 and 2014) evaluated a total of 55 teeth -
success rates 94% and 100%, follow up periods from 6 to 36 months. Two endocrown
failures occurred, - result secondary caries. Sedrez-Porto J A, Oliveira da Rosa WL, da Silva AF, et al:
Endocrown restorations: A systematic review and meta-analysis. J Dent 52:8-14, 2016

 Bindl and Mörmann got similar results in a clinical study of Cerec endocrowns cemented
adhesively. 19 endocrowns - checked (4 premolars and 15 molars) in 13 patients over 28
months. Only one molar endocrown failed because of recurrent caries. A. Bindl and W. H. Mörmann,
“Clinical evaluation of adhesively placed cerec endo-crowns after 2 years—preliminary results,” Journal of Adhesive Dentistry, vol. 1,
no. 3, pp. 255–265, 1999.

CONCLUSION
We can conclude that Endocrown’s can be a good alternative to traditional methods
due to better aesthetics , mechanical performances similar to traditional methods,
shorter working time.
