What is Bio Gas
• Biogas is the gas that is the product of the digestion of organic materials
under anaerobic conditions. Substrates such as manure, sewage sludge,
municipal solid waste, biodegradable wastes or feedstock are transformed into
methane and carbon dioxide.

• Typical composition of biogas

• 50-75 % Methane, CH4
• 25-50 % Carbon dioxide, CO2
• 0-10* % Nitrogen, N2
• 0-1 % Hydrogen, H2
• 0-3 % Hydrogen sulphide, H2S
• 0-2* % Oxygen, O2

The process of anaerobic digestion is done by methane bacteria.

Bio-CNG

• Purified Biogas is called Bio CNG

• Bio CNG is Renewable Natural Gas
• Bio CNG is exactly similar to Natural Gas in
composition andproperties
• It is a direct replacement of NG and for applications
of LPG

Patents

• Cow urine distillate has bioenhancing activity for Rifampicin, the front-line
anti-tubercular drug used against tuberculosis, increasing its action up to
sevenfold against Escherichia coli, and up to 11-fold against Gram-positive
bacteria. Cow urine distillate enhances the transport of antibiotics, e.g.,
Rifampicin, Tetracycline, and Ampicillin, across the gut wall as well as
across artificial membranes. Transport enhancement varies from
approximately twofold to sevenfold.

Patents

An anti-cancer drug extracted from cow urine and developed by Go Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra
has got a third US patent for its anti-genotoxicity properties.

The same extract, developed by Go Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra, had earlier got the US patent as a
bio- enhancer with antibiotics and anti-cancer drugs.

Research for the drug, whose brand name is 'Kamdhenu Ark', was carried out jointly by the
Kendra and National Environmental Engineer Research Institute (NEERI), Tapan Chakraborty,
Acting Director of NEERI, said while giving details about the patent received recently.

The research found that Re-distilled Cow Urine Distillate (RCUD) was useful for protecting and
repairing DNA from oxidative damage, Chakraborty and Sunil Mansinghka of Kendra told
reporters here on Wednesday.

Oxidative DNA damage is a leading cause of ageing, cancer and other diseases.
RCUD works against genotoxicity, a harmful action on a cell's genetic material, they said, adding
research has strengthened the efficacy of kamdhenu ark as anti-cancer drug.

The research was carried out on three patients, two of them having throat and uterus cancer,
Mansinghka said.
