Solid Waste Generation Of The

Faculty Premises

Faculty of Agriculture
Green Technology
Waste
Waste is define as,
materials unused and rejected as worthless or
unwanted
or
Any unwanted or useless materials
Solid waste
Solid waste is defined as,
Non liquid, non soluble materials ranging from
municipal garbage to industrial waste that
contain complex and some hazardous
substances.
Objectives
• To find the sources of waste generation
• To asses the total amount of solid waste
generate in the faculty premises.
• To find the available processes that used to
manage solid waste
• To find the suggestions to reduce the waste
generation in faculty premises.
Methodology

Establish the assessment boundaries

Collect data

Calculate total amount of waste

Analyze the data

Assumptions
• All the waste generate by the department or each
sections are thrown to the dustbins.
• We assume that, produced waste is collected
each of the day of the month in to the dustbins.
• We collected waste within three days and got an
average value.
• We assume that each of the month has 30 days.
• Then we sum the total waste per month and
multiply by 1 to have per year value.
Measurements of the waste
• Collect the waste generate by the
departments and each sections.
• Separate the waste according to waste type.
• Measure the weight of the waste continuously
for three days and calculate the average
weight.
• And then calculate the weight per year using
average weight of waste

Discussion

• Although there are separate dustbins to

categorize, it is of not properly in action.

• Students are not aware of the proper waste

disposal and management system and
segregation system.
Suggestions
• Have to re-arrange the waste management
system properly.
• Make students aware about the proper waste
disposal, segregation and management
system.
• Food waste can use as raw material for biogas
production.
• Biogas can use to produce electricity and can
be use to cooking purposes
• Polythene and plastic could be recycled.
• Paper waste could be recycled.
• Usage of polythene and plastic should be
reduce.
• Have to introduce 4R concept and using that
we have to reduce the waste generation of the
faculty
• Using biodegradable waste collected in faculty
premises ; compost can be produced in order
to fulfill the requirement of field
Group members
