Development of AP® CSP
Goals
► Make computer science more engaging and accessible

► Reach students underrepresented in computer science

► Better prepare students for the job market of today and tomorrow

Schools will begin to offer AP CSP in Fall 2016, with the first exam administration
scheduled for May 2017.

About the Course
AP Computer Science Principles offers a
multidisciplinary approach, focusing on the creative
aspects of programming. “Every student has
this ability to create
things that they
Students will learn: didn’t even imagine
they could create.
► Creative problem solving And when they do,
it starts to draw
► How to apply computational processes to analyze them in and inspire
them to think well
large data sets beyond what they
► Programming even imagined.”

 Effectively implement programming information about the innovation’s
elements from the language being intended purpose
used
 PDF, video, or audio
 Students may work collaboratively at
various stages of the development  Written responses to describe its
process usage, relationship to data and
impacts
 Each student submits their own
individual program

Universities Create Their
Own Version of AP CSP
Variations of the AP CSP course exists in colleges and
universities:

 Duke University – Students earning a 4 or 5 on the AP CSP

Exam will earn credit and placement out of Compsci 92.

 UC Berkeley – Students will earn credit and placement out of

CS10, The Beauty and Joy of Computing.
