Introduction
FEU continues to expand with renovation and modernization of
facilities and grounds and upgrading of the university’s educational
standard.

Often, it is forgotten that chairs improve the educational

environment which helps the students have the focus they need in a
university. Ergonomics of furniture, such as the chairs used by students
during class, should be well obtained. Changing the classroom chairs in
NRH Building that matches the students’ needs will make them more
diligent in bringing review materials, lessen fatigue, and discomfort
and most importantly, leave a room for creativity, and freedom of
movement. To achieve this goal, we want to give the students chairs
that create the right environment.
Problem Statement

The capacity of the chair limits the students to put a certain number
of school materials and change their sitting positions in the reason
of lack of maintenance and consideration of chair ergonomics.
Root Causes of the Problem

• Broken chairs – The legs of the chair, along with the metal that
supports the arm rest, has thin metal tubing.

• Small desks – The design of the desks are not equipped with the
student’s needs.

• Differentiation of chairs (height and color) – There is lack of

maintenance of chairs’ sizes and color. Moreover, insufficient
research on the right sizes of chairs for students.

• Shortage of chairs – Lack of control in the number of students and

chairs per room requires students to find extra chair from another
room which distract classes.

Conclusion

In highlighting and finding out the areas that needs to improve in

Far Eastern University, specifically in NRH Building, the use
of Cause and Effect, House of Quality, and the Pareto Diagram
helped a lot.

Ensuring the students’ comfort and concern is essential to make

them feel satisfied out of paying their tuition fee.
Recommendation
• The department of Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance
should have some room improvement in Nicanor Reyes Hall
Building, especially in terms of making the rooms more
spacious.
• Secondly, we suggest to replace the chairs in Nicanor Reyes
Hall Building with new and improved ones, and to ensure that
all the students in a class would be accommodated.
• Thirdly, there should be available chairs for left-handed
students.
• Fourthly, if a chair is broken, it should be immediately replaced
to avoid inconvenience.
• Lastly, we strongly recommend the frequent checking and
maintenance of the rooms and new chairs to prevent vandalism
and destruction of university’s facilities. By this, Far Eastern
University can rely to these information for better improvement
and quality service.
