Spending Behavior of Selected Grade 11 ABM Students in UPHSD- Molino Background of the Study We conduct this study to understand the students behavior towards money. This research explains how the students decide where and how they will spend their money.
Our study aims to know where the students spends the
most and least of their allowances. By this we can now predict the different spending behavior of the selected students. Theoretical Framework • Theory of Intertemporal Choices (Fisher, 1930) • the process by which people make decisions about what and how much to do at various points in time, when choices at one time influence the possibilities available at other points in time. • Fisher's model showed how rational forward looking consumers choose consumption for the present and future to maximize their lifetime satisfaction • Foresight, self-control, habit, expectation of life, and bequest motive (or concern for lives of others) are the five personal factors that determine a person's impatience which in turn determines his time preference. Methodology Research Design - The type of Qualitative research that we used in our study is phenomenology Setting - SHS-Building in University of Perpetual Help System-Molino Campus Participants and Sampling Procedure - Ten selected Grade 11 ABM students in the University of Perpetual Help-Molino Campus participated in this study. - Purposive sampling technique was used as clear characteristics of the participants was required. Data Analysis - To analyze the data collected in the study, the interview recorded tape were first transcribed. It was assumed that as the tapes were transcribed certain themes would emerge. The data analysis deemed sufficient to gather the information relevant to the research question in the study. It also allowed the researcher to predict he spending behavior of the student. Data Collection - We as an ABM student interested to know how our co- ABM students spend their money or their spending behaviors toward their money/allowances. - We conducted with Grade 11 ABM students by using face to face interview. Results and Discussions What are the different spending behavior of ABM Students? - Food, transportation and school expenses - Balancing the students expenses - Saving as a Good Practical Skill What are the most priority as well as the least priority of a students in spending their allowances? - Good Financial Management Skills - Disciplining oneself from spending too much - Its Benefits How does the behavior affect the daily expenses of the students? - Prioritizing the most needed things - School Expenses Affects The Students Budget - Being Quality Conscious - Money affects the behavior of a student Conclusions • Most of the selected students spend the most of their money on foods, transportation fare and in the school projects. • Student prioritized their needs over their wants which make us conclude they manage their money according to their needs. • In spending and in saving, specifically both self needs and academic matter is the main focus of the ABM students. Recommendations The knowledge gained from this study leads to the following recommendations. First, since this study was done only with ten selected Grade 11 ABM students, it is not totally enough to predict the different spending behavior of the students. It is more convenient to the future researchers if they have enough respondents and time to do this research paper for them to have enough information needed. They can also interview students not only on ABM major but also in different tracks for them to differentiate if having knowledge about financial matter really affects on how students spends their money. And lastly, as a senior high students, they must know how to identify the wasteful expenditures for them to achieve their financial goals. They should set some limitations on spending their money to help disciplining themselves not to spend too much. Moreover, the students should establish a good habit to learn some financial planning skills how to spend their money wisely for them to apply their knowledge gained in the ABM field in real life situations.
