OPENING STATEMENT:
What I learned about myself as a leader in HDF 190 is that
being a good communicator will help me stand out as I
lead others. Communicating effectively will allow me to
clearly vocalize my vision to my teammates and motivate
them in order to achieve a common goal together.
SECTION 1
SELF LEADERSHIP
#17 Student will describe strengths quest, signature themes…
HDF 190 has taught me much about my strengths. From doing the Gallup strengths
activity, I learned that my five strengths are achiever, context, input, restorative and
responsibility. One of the weaknesses that I possess is that because I have context, I am not
so great with looking at the future and I don’t like the uncertainty of it. Because of this, I
tend to see things that happened in the past as better and I don’t always take the advice of
people who have good ideas for the future. How I get around this problem is I have
responsibility. I know that my opinions are not the only ones out there and so that means I
have a responsibility to listen to those around me even if their views are in disagreement
with mine because that is how a good leader should be.
SECTION 2
Leadership Theory and Models
#27 The Servant leadership model
SECTION 3
Inclusive Leadership / Diversity and its application to leadership
#28 Student will describe personal application of the Servant Leadership Model
SECTION 4
Critical Thinking
#99 Student will demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking

In HDF 190, I learned that critical thinking is skillfully analyzing, assessing and
reconstructing a problem in order to fully understand it. An example of this was
when we did the communities activity in the ballroom. We had to make a tall tower
like structure out of just spaghetti, tape and marshmallows. It really got us thinking
about the best way to make our tower the tallest without having it topple over.
SECTION 5
Interpersonal and Organizational Concepts and Skills
#10 Student will demonstrate the ability to lead a project from start to finish

In HDF 190, I learned that being able to know yourself and the skills of the people your
working with is paramount in being a good leader. Good organizational skills are things like
decision making, delegating tasks and project management. For our group projects, we had to
be able to come together as a whole in order to complete it. I had to exert my own strength
which is achiever and that made it so when I was given my task, I got it done. We also had to
capitalize each other’s strengths. For example I lot of my group members were skillful with
computers so they were in charge of making the video for the group. Each of us was delegated
a specific task to complete which we all successfully managed. We all had the one goal of
getting the project done so with our combined skills, we were able to complete it.
