What is Packaging?
Definition: The wrapping material around a consumer item that
serves to contain, identify, describe, protect, display, promote
and otherwise make the product marketable and keep it clean

Packaging is defined in the regulations as "all products made


of any materials of any nature to be used for the containment,
protection, handling, delivery and preservation of goods from
the producer to the user or consumer."

 In recent years, companies have tended to use new


packaging material. Corrugated materials, particularly with
respect to package cushioning materials are used to cushion
the product inside the box.
Following are the generally used materials in packaging:-
• Adhesives, nails.
•Containers, cartons, boxes, bag
•Wood, steel, plastic, label
•Tapes, ropes, drums
•Crates to carry bottles
•Thermocol boxes
•Bubble wrap, sacks, strapping.
Design of Package
 The design of the packaging has to be done carefully to
achieve the needful purpose as well as to have least expenses.
It must avoid damage totally by worst set of labor, equipment
and space.
 Keep good interaction with other flow systems functions of
transportation, warehousing, inventory control, etc. for
logistics system.
 Maximize storage space at workstation.
 Design an affective packaging bench mark.
 Improve order fulfillment through better packaging process.
 Create a meaningful job description for the packing function.
 Consider consumer requirements as well as logistics system.
