Guidelines for Subordinate-Superior Mode

• Controlled by the Superior


– So depends on compatibility
– But informal power exists (interdependence)
• Ponder on the WHAT
• While conducting
– Be relaxed, self confident & open as you can
– Constantly monitor Emotional Temperatures
– Instead of opposing ask for advice
– Be prepared to give entitlement to your boss to save face

You sometimes have to say NO
•Consider the implications
•Pros & cons
•Who will be hurt

•Consider the HOW


•Refusal => guilt
•Verbal and Non Verbal behaviour

•Refuse but not insult


•Aim at the request, not the person

•Enable “face saving”


•Avoid public declines

•Consider alternatives
•Accept partly

Procedural Memory
Mechanical Memory
• Procedural memory is a subset of implicit memory
•Also referred to as unconscious or automatic memory
•Uses past experiences to remember things without thinking about them

• A part of the long-term memory


•Does not involve conscious thought
• Responsible for knowing HOW to do things
•eg: walking, talking, driving, riding a bike

• So if the guidelines appear numerous/detailed/pedantic


• Once you adopt the mindset of Mutuality, the Guiding Principles
will become part of your “procedural memory and you will gradually
use them automatically without having to think
• in the meantime use the Guide
