(IWK) chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang (pic),
Malaysians produce 5.1 million cubic metres of
sewage everyday – easily filling up 2,000
Olympic-sized swimming pools.
• Under the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (11MP), the
government aims to provide 80% of the
population (especially in main cities) with
connected sewerage services by 2020.

• Geotube desludging technique has

been identified as the ideal method,
combining speed with reduced
odour emission. This is the first time
the innovative desludging method is
being used in Malaysia.

How It Works?
Step 1 - Filling
Sludge is pumped into the Geotube container with
environmentally safe polymer that binds solid together
Step 2 - Dewatering
Clear effluent water is drained out from the Geotube
container, capturing over 99% solids
Clear filtrate can be collected and recirculated through the
system
Step 3 - Consolidation
Solids remaining in the container can be deposited at a
landfill or land-applied when appropriate
Advantages : Simple mechanism, Low cost, Available in variety
of sizes
Volume reduction as high as 90% with high solid levels,
BOD reduction up to 90%, Designed to fit in a roll-off box for
ease of transportation.

hectares.

The catchment areas include

Bandar Baru Sentul, Sentul
Raya, part of Kuala Lumpur city
commercial centers, Bangsar,
Bukit Kiara recreational area,
part of Old Klang Road, and
Petaling Jaya.

One such technology – adapted from China –Considered the largest within
the Asia-Pacific region, that facility challenges all perceptions that sewage
treatment plants are unhygienic and smelly
PANTAI 2 STP CROSS SECTION
• The wastewater treatment system that being used in Pantai 2 STP is Advance Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic
(Advance AAO) process.
Also known as Advance A2O System.

• This process will eliminate phosphorus and nitrogen from the wastewater, before the treated wastewater
or known as effluent were discharge to Klang River.

• This elimination of phosphorus and nitrogen will prevent from water weed to grow rapdly which may
cuase problems to other aquatic life.
