WELDING FCAW

Arc welding flux cored

WELDING FCAW
(FLUX CORED ARC WELDING)
Is a process of arc welding fail an arc between
a continuous filler metal electrode and weld
pool.
He aspect which distinguishes the FCAW
process other arc welding processes is the
inclusion of fluxing ingredients within a
continuous feed electrode.
FCAW WELDING CLASSIFICATION

The FCAW process has two main variations that

differ in their method of arc protection

FCAW - SS (SELF SHIELDED)

FCAW - GS (GAS SHIELDED)
FCAW CLASSIFICATION

One, self-shielded FCAW protects the molten

metal through the decomposition and
vaporization of the flux core in the heat of the
arc. (FCAW - SS)
 The other type, the FCAW shield gas, use a
protective gas flow in addition to the action of
the flux-cored. (FCAW - GS)
FCAW - H.H
(Flux cored Arc Welding - Self
Shielded)
Cored welding Auto-protected
It is a flux cored wire to protect internal welding.
FCAW - SS
(AUTO PROTECTED)
Advantage:
 To work in open field

 Do not Gas needs

 Best mechanical properties
 good ones on dirty steels

 Good at all welding position

FCAW - SS
(AUTO PROTECTED)
limitations:

 It produces a lot of smoke

 produces splashes

 produces slag

 It should break the tip of the wire to re-start

FCAW - GS
flush cored Arc Welding - Gas Shielded

Double shielded welding.

It is used with a gas for additional protection.
FCAW-GS

Advantage
Appearance Lace excellent
Very low spatter
excellent mechanical properties
High efficiency (+ 90%)
good ones in any welding position
FCAW-GS

limitations

 smokeless

 Less portability by using gas

 It can be affected by breezes

 produces slag

 HE limited to large thicknesses

FCAW-FUNCTIONS OF FLUX

 Forms a protective cover gases and

fumes.
 Allow deep penetration
 It provides elements that enhance the
mechanical properties
 It produces a slag cover:
Protects the welder
It shapes the weld
FCAW-CHEMICAL ELEMENTS
AND ITS ROLE
For rust aluminum and denitrified
It produces calcium and form slag protection
Carbon increases hardness and tensile strength
For rust and manganese increases tensile strength
Molybdenum increases the hardness and tensile strength
Nickel improves the strength, toughness, tensile strength and
corrosion
Sodium and potassium stabilizes the arc and forms slag
For rust silicon and forms slag
For rust titanium, denitrified and stabilizes the arc
FCAW-PROTECTIVE GASES

 The gas acts as protection is inert, ie it does

not act actively in the process itself, and
therefore very stable.
 Carbon dioxide (C02) is the most widely
used protective gas arc welding flux cored.
 Two advantages of this gas are its low cost
and deep penetration can be achieved.
