Collective noun is a noun that names a group of people or things. It’s usually
singular.
congress team committee public
organization jury club minority
government group class *) majority
family army crowd
Example:
1. The family was elated by the news.
2. Congress has initiated a new plan to combat inflation.
3. Our team is going to win the game.
4. The flock of birds is circling overhead.
5. A school of fish is being attacked by sharks.
Collective nouns indicating time, money and measurements used as a whole are
singular.
Example:
1. Twenty-five dollars is too much to pay for this shirt
2. Fifty minutes isn’t enough time to finish this test.
3. Twenty dollars is all I can afford to pay for the recorder.
4. Two miles is too much to run in one day.
The following nouns are always considered plural. They can’t be singular. In
order to speak of them as singular, one must say “a pair of “.

Example:
1. The pants are in the drawer.
2. A pair of pants is in the drawer.
4. Count and non-count nouns.
• Some determiners can be used only with count or non-count nouns, while
others can be used with either.

Pronoun
• Pronoun is a small set of words that are used as
substitutes for nouns or noun phrase and whose
referents are named or understood in the context.
