FACTS OF THE

HUMAN BODY
KIDNEY

FUNCTIONS:
■ Kidney helps to regulate the pression blood
■ Regulate the concentration of electrolytes
■ Removes waste or ‘garbage’ from the body
■ Stimulates the production of red blood cells
■ Maintains ph levels
KIDNEY

■ Measure 4 inches in length

■ We can survive only with one kidney
■ Form 0.5 % of the entire body weight
■ Kidney filters more or less 20 times the blood per day We have 7L of blood
■ Maintain a constant amount of fluid in the body
■ They’re responsable for the activation of vitamin D (
■ Kidney disease can never be reversedits progression can be slowed down
■ Some illness can make a damage in the kidney. E.g, Diabetes
HANDS
■ They can helps us to express our opinions
■ We can demostrate when we are nervous or worry about something: shaking
■ We use to hold or catch things
■ They can be useful to identify the persons: fingerprints
■ China: the ring finger is used to indicate affection to the brothers
■ ‘Most successful men used to have long ring fingers’
■ Thumb has only two phalanges with respect to the others
■ Each hand has 27 little bones
■ Thumb need just 9 muscles and 3 bigger nerves
BRAIN
■ It is the most important organ of the human body. It is protected inside the skull and
is the command center of the nervous system.
■ it has control of all organs in the body, motor and cognitive functions, and hormone
production.
■ The human brain has been described as the most complex system in the known
universe.
■ Its complexity is much greater than that of any computer.
■ The brain is the organ that keeps us alive.
■ Every day 85 thousand neurons are lost, but the brain has the capacity to
regenerate them throughout its life in response to stimulation.
TONGUE.
 Did you know that tongue is the only muscle in human body that works without
any support from the skeleton?

 Approximately, there are 10,000 taste buds in our mouth of which 8,000 live on
our tongue and the remaining 2,000 are found in the places we mentioned in
the previous point.

 The tongue is THE STRONGEST muscle in entire body. However, it is at the same
time, one of THE MOST sensitive muscles as well.

 Women have shorter tongues compared to males.

 Our tongue can taste sour, sweet, bitter, salty and umami. Umami is actually a
very new variant of taste discovered by a Japanese scientist who found that the
chemical that is responsible for this taste is monosodium glutamate.
EAR
• Newborn babies’ middle ear is full of fluid and can impair their hearing slightly.

• Your ears don’t stop hearing when you sleep; your brain chooses to ignore sound

• You do not need to clean the wax out of your ears unless you have an abnormal
condition. Ears push the excess wax out as needed.

• Wearing headphones for just an hour will increase the bacteria in your ear by 700
times.

• The number one cause of hearing loss is exposure to excessively loud sounds (85
decibels or higher).
EYE
■ The eye is one of the most complex
organs of the human being and its
objective is to transform light into
electrical signals that are conducted to
the brain through the optic nerve. The
sense of sight depends on the eyes, for
which we receive 50% of the
information in our environment.
We tell you some curiosities about the
eye:
■ 1. We blink about 12 times per minute.
■ 2. When you see someone who loves, our pupils in a state of dilatation can reach up to 45%.
■ 3. If the human eye were a camera, it would have 576 megapixels.
■ 4. The human eye is able to distinguish about 10 million different colors.
■ 5. Newborns do not produce tears until they reach between 4 and 13 weeks.
■ 6. It is impossible to sneeze with open eyes.
■ 7. The size of an eye is 25 millimeters in diameter and weighs about 8 grams.
■ 8. The more years a person has, the less tears he produces.
■ 9. Sight is such an important part of daily life that it requires the use of approximately half of the
brain.
■ 10. In the world 1 in 12 men is color blind.
