Nanosponges: A Potential Nanocarrier
For Novel Drug Delivery
Nanosponges

• Tiny mesh-like structures

• A large variety of substances can be encapsulated

• Spherical colloidal nature

• Have a very high solubilization capacity

• Shows inclusion and non-inclusion behavior.

• Recently developed and proposed for drug delivery

• Solubilize poorly water soluble drug

• Provide prolonged release

• Improve drugs bioavailability
• Can load both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drug molecules
• Have inner hydrophobic cavities and external hydrophilic branching,
thereby offering flexibility
• Shows three dimensional network or scaffold like structure
• The backbone is a long length of polyester which is mixed in solution with
small molecules called cross linkers that act like tiny grappling hooks to
fasten different parts of the polymer together.
