2
INTRODUCTION

• As it leaves the well, the oil accompanies

gases, salts, water and mechanical
impurities "sand and mud" sometimes, so
these things must be partially separated in
the field, and then in the refinery.

3
SEPARATION OF GASES

• The associated gases are separated in the oil fields at

the natural gas isolation plants and then driven to the
gasoline module to separate the light condensates,
which are often associated with the gases, which are
separated by condensation called natural gasoline.

4
GAS SEPARATOR

5
• The gas that accompanies the oil as it
leaves the well must be separated from oil.
This separation is done in oil fields in
natural gas isolation plants by reducing the
speed of the oil and gas mixture.

6
STABILIZATION OF OIL IN THE FIELDS

The stabilization of oil in the chapter of light extracts and dissolved gases is crude. For
this purpose, the light and gas fumes are emitted after passing through a capacitor to the
gas separator, where the gas is separated and driven by a pump to the gas network or to
the gas processing plants.
• Installed oil is routed to the plants for refining
Sometimes the gas separator is used as the first water separator.

7
THE REMOVAL OF SALTS &
WATER FROM PETROLEUM
• Water and mechanical impurities "salts, sand and mud" always
accompany oil during extraction. In some cases, free water from
petroleum is relatively easily separated, but it is a constant
emulsifier with petroleum in others.
The oil obtained in an emulsified form must be subject to a
relatively complex special treatment to separate it from water
and mechanical impurities, as the refining of impurities oil
complicates the operation of industrial units to a large extent.

9
PETROLEUM EMULSIFIERS

• There are two types of petroleum emulsifiers: "water in

petroleum", hydrophobic emulsions, "petroleum in water",
hydrophilic emulsions.
Emulsions of type I are more prevalent than type II.
• In the emulsions of the first type, water is found in the oil in the
form of an unlimited quantity of tiny droplets.
• In the emulsions of the second type, the oil is in the form of
single drops suspended in water.
