LEGAL, ETHICAL AND

REPRESENTATION
PRESENTATION
COPYRIGHT

• The issue of copyright is one, I would greatly have to consider because of

the issues surround the branding on the organisations because there are
certain guidelines of which I would have to follow to make sure that the
guidelines are followed and there isn’t an issue of copyright when using the
logos in the production of my newspaper. I would make sure that I would be
avoiding copyright by following the guidelines which has been established
and I would possibly get in contact with the organisations to make sure that I
don’t breach their copyright laws they have established.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

• This is where it is created by the mind and this is related to the different
symbols and other images which are related.
• I would possibly have to consider this because of the use of symbols which I
am going to be using throughout the newspaper. I would avoid this by
getting in contact with the organisations to make sure I am able to use their
logos and images which they have created for the purpose of their product.
DEFAMATION – LIBEL

• Libel is one I would have to consider, because there is the ambassadors for
the different organisations' such as Bear Grylls who is Chief Scout for the
Scouting movement, as well as the patrons for the organisations which is
H.M Elizabeth II.
• This I would have to consider greatly because if I report anything of which
would ruin the reputation of the ambassadors then I would be held
accountable of which would reflect badly on the organisations of which the
newspaper is going to be representing.
ROYALTIES

• I would have to consider royalties if I am going to be having a product of

which I am going to be writing an article on. For example, if I was going to
be writing an article about what is the best type of camping equipment to
buy in time for the camping season. I would have to pay royalties to the
companies of which I am going to be using within the article. I would avoid
the
OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE

• I would have to make sure the language of which I am going to be using is

appropriate for the audience of which the newspaper is aimed at. The
audience which I am aiming the newspaper at is young children and
teenagers so I would have to carefully consider the linguistic codes of which
I am writing the articles about.
CONTEMPT OF COURT

• Contempt of court is where you are disobeying of the rules of a court of law
or you are discourteous towards a court of law. This includes the officers and
its officers in the form of behaviour which defies or opposes the courts. I am
going to be avoiding them by making sure that I wouldn’t report on any
cases which would influence the final judgement on the case.
PLAGIARISM

• Plagiarism is the act of taking someone’s work and claiming it as my own

when I didn’t produce the work myself.
• I am going to be avoiding this by if I have used information from someone
else’s information, I am going to cite my source where I had got it from. I am
also going to be using a plagiarism checker to make sure that there isn’t any
content which is going to be the same as what I have created.
PUBLIC INTEREST

• In terms of public interest I would have to think about the young children of
which is going to be reported on and make sure I have the parents
permission for the photography and I would have to make the proper
representations in order for the children protected and the news of which is
going to be reported is going to be in the interest of the readership of the
newspaper
IPSO

• IPSO is the Independent Press Standards Authority where they regulate what
the newspapers publishes. This is so any news of which is reported isn’t in
anyway libellous towards anyone or any company of which I am going to be
reporting on.
• I would have to consider the editors code of practise where it has 16 clauses
for a journalist to maintain in order for their news reports to be accurate and
it wouldn’t be in anyway badly reflects the news.
IPSO CONTINUED

• In terms of the editors code of practise I would have to carefully consider

the clauses which involve children as my newspaper is going to be featuring
children so I would have to make sure I adhere to them to make sure that the
children aren’t being exposed in any harmful way
DISCRIMINATION

• I would have to carefully consider discriminating any member of the youth

organisations where I would have to be considerate of race, religion and
disability. I would have to consider that the youth organisations are all
inclusive and I would have to maintain a standard of which is acceptable
towards including everyone
DATA PROTECTION ACT

• I would have to carefully consider the data protection act which is the
protection of the information of information of children and teenagers of
which I would have to consider due to the nature of the ages of the children.
• I would avoid having to use data protection by making sure I don’t get any
contact details for any person under the age of 18 and if I did get hold of any
details, I would get rid of these details safely and securely.
REPRESENTATION

• I would have to make sure that I don’t represent the organisations in a bad
light which would undermine the integrity of what they do for the youth
members of the organisations. I have to make sure that I publish information
in the correct light of which does reflect on the work which the adult
volunteers do to change the lives of the youths which they have an influence
over
