LOCATION OF EGYPT

The Location of Egypt is in Northeast of Africa. Egypt’s Capital is Cairo.

The geomorphology of Egypt comprises of desert out of which 90% is
the Libyan Desert and the remaining 10% is Sahara Desert and Arabian
Desert.
THE NILE VALLEY AND ITS IMPORTANCE
The river was the main transportation between places in ancient times. Although
donkeys were also used to transport people and goods, everyone took to the river as a
mean of transport. Other methods such as horses and camels, only appeared in later
times, being introduced by the Persians when they occupied Egypt.

The the Nile Valley was very important to Egypt and still is important today. It was the
only way to grow crops during the flood season. If it weren’t for that river, the ancient
Egyptians would have nothing to do to grow their crops. Also, farmers would be losing
money everyday.
EGYPTIAN FOOD
Figs and Dates have always been extremely popular and sensible food crops
in the arid Egyptian climate. Grapes were a well liked ancient Egyptian
food, both as a fruit and in the form of wine, for those who could afford it.

Vegetables were also common ancient Egyptian foods and a number of

recipes featured the use of peas and beans. Onions were also a
widespread ancient Egyptian food. In addition, garlic was very well liked.
Records indicate that leeks, lettuce, cabbages and turnips were also
staples in the typical ancient Egyptian diet

The ancient Egyptians also liked fish. The fish were in the rivers. They also
liked bread and beer. Beer were one of their favorite drinks. In the majority
of their dishes, fish was the main food.
Ancient Egyptian people
Army
Wrestling, Sand-bag lifting, Archery, Knife-throwing, Stick-fighting all formed a part of
the training. An Ancient Egyptian soldier was expected to be able to cover 32
kilometres in one day. Discipline was strict and punishments, by beatings, were severe.

Cats
In Ancient Egypt, cats were very respected. Cats were even considered sacred. They
were loved by the Egyptians. If you killed a cat you were condemned to death. Cats
were mummified after death as humans. The discovery of a large tomb outside the
town of Beni Hasan had eighty thousand cat mummies, dating to 1000-2000 BCE.
Mummified cats were offered to the cat goddess. Bubastis contains the remains of over
300,000 cat mummies. In the tombs of the cats were set bowls of milk along with mice
and rats.

Marriage
In Egypt, marriage was early. Boys at age 15 started marrying and girls at age 12
started marrying. Unlike many countries, Egypt had very little arranged marriages.

Religion
Despite worshiping statues, cats and kings, The Egyptians were very religious. They
believed in a god and after-life. They buried dead people with artifacts to be used
in the after-life. They buried kids with toys and adults with jewelry, belongings when
they were alive and many other things.

The Egyptians wrote Hieroglyphs. They were comprised of images of daily

life. Usually written on stone. Here are a few examples:
Egypt’s climate

Egypt, located in the African continent, has always been experiencing a hot and
humid climate. Egypt was mostly filled with sandy deserts. Only a small area around the
Nile was inhabited. Huge attempts to prevent the heat were not employed as
Egyptians gradually accustomed themselves with the climate. The winters were not so
cold and the average winter temperature was 48 degrees Fahrenheit. The houses were
already prepared to welcome the season. The houses were built with layers of cloth on
the open windows to keep most of the chill outside. There were rains during winter and
it was a tough time for the clay-made houses of Egypt. The dryness of the climate
facilitated the construction of mud houses. The people who did not live near the Nile
obviously depended on rain. The nights were cold.
